I'm watching the replay of the PSG/St Etienne match on DVR and good lord this guy is good. The great Ray Hudson called him the best pure striker in the world, bar none. I completely agree. It seems like sometimes he's overlooked when talking about the best of this generation and the best of all time. IMO he's right behind Messi/Ronaldo at the moment, along with probably Ribery and Suarez. I may be leaving out a few more, idk, whatever.

The skill he possesses at his size is just stupid. He scores a lot of really amazing goals and his passing and set up play is great too.

Anyway, he's real good. I know about his reputation for not showing up in some big games. But some of that is more myth than fact. His game for Sweden against Portugal in the WC play-in game was incredible. But so was Ronaldo's, unfortunately. The perception of arrogance he plays up doesn't help his case either, I guess. Likability is a factor too, and a lot of people don't like him. Personally, I love it. His personality, the book, quotability, all of it, are hilarious to me. One of my favorite players to watch.

ETA Cavani is nasty too. He may be the 2nd best pure striker behind Ibra. Although he plays on the wing in their 4-4-3. I could see PSG making a really deep champions League run this year. They are fun as hell to watch.

Thoughts?

Kind of long, sorry.

I think if they are allowed to play a 4-4-3, they'll be dangerous as well.

i love zlatan so much. 2nd only behind my one true love, ronaldo. he was fricking insane in that game yesterday

he and cavani are just filthy and they work really well together. cavani creeps in a lot and zlatan often backs off a bit and plays like a 10. he laid off some amazing passes in the box yesterday

he's easily the best pure striker in soccer today, but you have to remember soccer is moving to where pure strikers are less important. wingers are the dominant offensive-scoring position of the day

didn't they go to the semis last year and it was somewhat close?

their D is legit and with zlatan/cavani their offense can show up on any given day. i think they could win it

Lost in quarters to Barca on away goals.

If PSG don't draw Real Madrid or Bayern in quarters I can see them making the semis or even the final. They're that good this year.

Zlatan is my favorite player. Having a black belt in taekwondo can create some pretty awesome goals. He moves so effortlessly for a big guy.

When he was at Barca, I despised him because I despise Barca.

Now, the man is bar none one of my favorite players in the game. He just does amazing shite, and he does it consistently.

I've always loved Zlatan, undoubtedly one of the best forwards of all time. Bicycle kick goal vs. England last year sums up his abilities ZLATAN

He's also got some hilarious quotes.

Perception? I think he's pretty much confirmed as a complete delusional prick. I'm glad that Oguchi Onyewu beat his punk arse. Or as Zlatan would call it, "a competitive fight" where he just happened to leave with cracked ribs.

I don't know if delusional is the right word. I've seen all the quotes and interviews so I know what you mean. He basically just thinks he's the best at what he does and he damn near is. That's not delusion, it's confidence, bordering on arrogance. He might be a prick. I don't know him so I don't know if he is or not. From my POV, it seems like a lot of his shite is intentional to play up the Zlatan image thing.

Thanks for the contribution douchebag. Really insightful.

He's no doubt one of the top 5 players in the world right now. While it's really difficult to compare modern day soccer players/athletes to athletes from the past, sports science and modern training techniques have progressed to the point where it's pretty much undisputed that athletes now are better than they have ever been.

IMO you can't name ten players from any time in history that are better than him. That makes him one of the best players OF ALL TIME. Again, just my opinion.

Without doubt.

I certainly agree with how amazing of a player he is. Truly a special talent for his elite vision / passing / technical skills as a real #9.

I'd argue that he's often underrated a bit because his persona inspires so much disdain that many are loathe to credit him.
