Anybody know anything about the F-35 Lightning II? I'm reading that it sucks?

So the government plans to buy 2,443 of these from Lockheed-Martin. The F-35 variants are intended to provide the bulk of its manned tactical airpower for the U.S. Air Force, Marine Corps and Navy over the coming decades.
But a report from the RAND Corporation says it "can't turn, can't climb, can't run".
Says it's not as good as Russian Flankers.
Basically they say it sucks arse.
So what's the deal? Is this true? Why would they buy all of these planes and spend all of this money if they suck?

That's just what they want you to believe. Tell everyone it sucks including our enemies, and then boom.

Well, the F-16 started flying in the mid 70's. its a 40 year old platform. Gotta replace it with something in due course. F-35 is a multi-role airplane with significant A2G capability, so maybe not the best comparison to a Flanker.

Mine was slow and always ran hot. Traded it for a horse.

Don't know shite about jets, but I see F-35s every day, and they seem badass.. I did hear they had problems at first, just figured they had sorted all of that.
