SIAP, I searched

quote:

Louie's Cafe at the north gates of LSU will change locations, taking over the building vacated by Wendy's on Lake Drive. The diner is a longtime Baton Rouge staple, offering breakfast 24-hours a day to hungry football fans before LSU games, late-night sustenance to students and all walks-of-life in between.

Louie's co-owner Jimmy Wetherford said the transition should go smoothly, and he hopes business won't be interrupted. If it is, he said, it should only be for a day or two.

The new location should be open by the end of summer.

The biggest change, however, will be in the amount of seating. The restaurant will improve from seating for 60 to seating for 90 to 100 patrons.

I found cardboard from an egg carton in my omelette there once.

maybe living in NY has morphed my sense of how much food costs, but IIRC, an omelet is like under $12 there, which I didn't find ridiculous at all, especially for the size. and most of their sandwiches and hamburgers are under $8. is that really expensive?

It's not expensive. And that Big Cheesy Lou has always been a favorite of mine.

I hope it has the sameness at the new location.

So what would be a good fit in the old location?

Good hot dog joint?

It's a chance for a Food Board baller to open his mom and pop.

I think their prices are fair but I can see how a lot of people drive the price of their meals up. I see lots of people customizing their orders and adding multiple ingredients and toppings to omelets and hashbrowns. Each topping has a charge like toppings on a pizza.

I wonder what will happen to the lot where the restaurant is currently located.

More parking will be really nice. On another note, I wonder if they'll ever get the old place to stop smelling like Louie's.

The question becomes: will the new location have good enough ventilation that customers don't reek of grease for the rest of the day after eating there?

More parking and more seating. Good move. Spent many nights and mornings in there when I lived on State.

I despise this move purely from a sense of nostalgia. But it's probably good for them.

Meh they've only been in the current building about 30 years and have had like 4 other prior locations around the Northgates. It's a big upgrade for them and I'm all for it.

I tend to agree. I hoping they can maintain the same diner feel.
