Store Clerk Ends Fugitive's NOLA Crime Spree

The surveillance video shows the man identified by police as Rogers wandering through the store around 6:40 a.m., a few hours after clerks said he first appeared to be casing the store. Rogers is seen waiting for a customer to complete his purchase and leave, then he tries stepping behind the counter toward Mustafa brandishing a handgun.

But Rogers appeared to miss a step, causing him to stumble and fall over a small footstool behind the counter. Cue Mustafa.

The clerk, who Rashid said is from the Northwestern African nation of Mauritania and was in his first week on the job, confronted the intruder and knocked his gun aside. Though shorter than Rogers, Mustafa is shown wrestling Rogers to the floor and maintaining control over the larger man, even after Rogers drew a knife and attempted to stab him. Mustafa grabbed the blade of the knife and wrested it away, suffering a deep cut to his hand but never letting Rogers regain his feet.
