I signed up for this a bit ago and haven't bought anything up to this point. I am getting ready to, so I did the measurements they ask for. I got the wife to do them, so I assume they are not as accurate as they would be had a professional did them.

For those of you who got someone you know to do the measurements (as instructed on the site), were they accurate enough to not require any alterations? The fact that they get so many different measurements makes me nervous that if the way each part of the leg, for example, were measured just slightly different (two fingers snug on the thigh vs. maybe 1.5 fingers at the waist), that it could throw the whole thing off.

Also, how is the quality of the actual product and the custom sizing? Are you happy with this service?

They don't offer you any guarantees

The site I went through offered up to $75 for you to take it to a tailor on their cost and of the alterations were more than that they would make you an entirely new suit or tux at their cost

They as in BL specifically? The website says free shipping, including return for any alterations, which were also free. And full refunds.

I might have missed your point.

Made me nervous as frick. Had SO do measurements but ended up going to a tailor after the concierge doubted some. I could not be more happy with the suit. It came out the box absolutely perfect.

This kind of goes against my Alpha image, but alas, they don't even make suits my size at the 'Big/Tall' type places.

But I can say Alpha move would have been going to suit place and having them professionally measure you, then not buying the suit....

Did the tailor's measurements come back a good bit different than the first ones? I was thinking it was worth it to get a pro to do it, but since the website actually suggested "a friend", I thought maybe I was putting too much stock in the preciseness of them.

You looking sharp in those suits and shirts? I have a few suits that were tailored after being bought off the rack, but from what I gather based on the number of measurements they take, this is a whole new level of custom fit. I want to replace the few earlier suits I bought back in college/year one post-grad that look like hand-me-downs.

They ended up being fairly spot on with one measurement being off fairly substantial which is one that goes down arm and bends at elbow. Your so may be a little sharper than mine. I guess I just have weird measurements. He thought my shoulders seemed to wide and my arms too long. It's a whole dif level of fit and frankly it's how a suit was intended to fit. I wore it one time. To a funeral at that and I heard comments about the suit all day. I did not get the slimmest fit but rather middle choice and I'm very happy with my decision. I did however get the slimmest shirt fitting and I think that was wise too esp if it's a shirt that will be worn soley under a suit or with a vest bc you won't get any bunching up.

They have a checklist of measurements and worksheet that you can just bring a tailor (even explains snugness of each measurements to tailor). They even recommended a tailor which they prob just got off yelp bc they hadn't even heard of bl but were the highest rated tailor on yelp. I believe measurements costs $8. I would prob just do it bc you get a little piece of mind and may save a headache down road

Yea, I've decided to go ahead and get them taken by a tailor. Small money and time investment compared to that assurance. Was the tailor Houston or LA?

Was curious about this. I saw Indochino once... they set up a temp store in Grand Central in NYC a year or two ago... I thought the suits looked of poor quality even standing a few feet back from them. They just looked like they didn't hold their shape that well and the way the lapels folded down looked sort of sloppy.

I have a small number of nice suits and a few average suits, some of which are getting old and due for replacement, so I had been considering BL. Looking on the "quality" page of the Black Label site, I see that they do use half canvas construction (as opposed to fully fused w/glue), so it would seem they should hold their shape pretty well. I hate cheap fused suits that look bad after a dozen or so trips to the cleaners.

When you say BL is a step up from Indochino, is this the sort of thing you're talking about? (construction / the way it holds it's shape) Or other?
