What is the real value of a seat in the US Senate? Salary aside these guys make a fortune consulting and lobbying when they "retire". How much do you think a seat in the Senate is really worth?

This is one of the fundamental problems with our government. Our founding fathers never intending for politician to be come a full time occupation. We are in dire need of term limits for Congress. The only way will get it is through a Constitutional Convention. These lifers will never vote to limit their own terms and their constituents will just keep voting them in to get more pork for their states. In other words the root cause of many of our problems is excessive power of the federal government and government dependency in general.

You hit the nail completely on the head. I laugh my arse of when one of these bastards calls themselves public servants.
