Andrew Stevenson's little brother was in the LSU dugout on Sunday

In case anyone was wondering who the young boy was standing next to Coach Mainieri during the Sunday game, he was Andrew Stevenson's little brother, Matthew, 16. The kid went nuts in the dugout when his big brother hit the triple.
And after the game, Matthew joined the team in lining up on the infield and high fiving each other and in shaking hands with the Purdue players.
Then when the team went to their huddle in the outfield with the coaches, the players lifted Matthew onto their shoulders in the center of the huddle. He was fist pumping towards the sky. A true "Rudy" moment.
Good for Matthew. Good for Coach Mainieri. And good for the players.

(Stevenson) did it all with his brother, Matthew, watching from the LSU dugout. Matthew, 16, has Down syndrome. He spent the game next to Mainieri, leaning over the dugout railing and gesturing toward the field for the coach. “Pretty cool experience having him in here,” Stevenson said.
“He loved it. He’s my biggest fan.”

The stevensons are a great family.

Andrew seems like a quality young man. I'm really happy he had a great game defensively Sunday making two outstanding diving catches.
And the triple was nice, too.
His brother picked a good game to attend.

Andrew Stevenson's Lafayette Little League team made it to the Little League World Series. Mathew Stevenson's Lafayette Challenger Baseball Team played at the Little League World Series a couple of years later. They may be the only family who has ever had players on a regular team and a Challenger team at Williamsport.
Great family. Great family.

His mom lived down the street from me in Lafayette. We graduated together in 83. Her husband was a great guy too. Hell of an athlete and could have played college football.
I saw them both recently at out HS 30th. The whole family is "Good people".

I played travel ball with Andrew the summer before his freshmen year. Nice guy and an even better ball player.

My bride told me the story when I got home Sunday evening. I could of cried. She almost did relating it to me. I know she did while it was happening. She said Bregs went and got him out of the stands.
