Honest question from a guy who has only seen box scores this year and been keeping up since 2005 as my freshman year (grew up in a 3 generation Texas household until I broke the mold).

Dude looks to be as good as anyone else we have had in that timeframe. Renaudo probably leading the pack into this season, no disrespect to a classmate of mine in Coleman.

He is full beast mode this year. He is in that top tier category.

But let's face some facts...some of the former greats had to do it against the old bats...

Lloyd Peever still probably had the best individual season. Wanna say it was '92

But Nola is absolutely in rare company and one of the greatest ever at LSU, not trying to take anything away from just how amazing he's been in his career for us.

No doubt. Makes you wonder what McDonald, Byrd, and Springer would have done in this era.

Kind of hard to compare him to guys for other eras due to the run environment being so much lower these days, but Nola's K:BB ratio is absolutely sick and that is the main thing a pitcher can control.

We will see how the sec goes, but he could be the best lsu pitcher of the 2000s

If he runs through the sec again the same way as last year probably the best. Ever.

That may be true be of the w-l record (and I've always told people how great peever`s season was) but Nola had better stats last season except for the W-L , and the only loss he had he didn't give up an earned run.

quote:

Player era w-l app-gs cg sho sv ip h r er bb so 2b 3b hr ab b/avg wp hbp bk sfa sha
Aaron Nola 1.57 12-1 17-17 5 3/2 0 126.0 83 30 22 18 122 9 1 4 442 .188 3 11 0 2 8

I realize that shut ain't lining up right but more cg, k's, ip`s, less era and bb`s in the same amount of appearances. I know Peever also took one to the dome and missed a start or 2 as well.

That's a 0.83 WHIP. In 1992. Holy shite.

I think from a college baseball perspective, Nola will definitely be the best pitcher of the Mainieri era.

Nola > Gausman > Renaudo.

Peever and Brett Laxton each had one dominant season at LSU but Nola has had more longevity up until now. It will be interesting to see how Nola finishes out his career. If this season is as dominant as last then he might well be considered the best career LSU pitcher.

Another thing to consider is that Skip calling pitches back then was part of the formula for pitching dominance.

Nola > coleman > gausman > ranaudo....assuming nola pitches like he did last year in sec play.
