Interview with NP dispelling crazy theories

If you are one of these dumbass who has crazy theories, and wants to keep believe them until your dreams are crushed on Sunday, do not read.

But there is a clear mandate in pay-cable for a certain level of nudity. Now, you’re not going to get our two lead movie stars to go full-frontal, but we at least got Matthew’s butt in there. There’s not a great deal of nudity in the series at all, though, compared to other shows on pay-cable. I’d be happy with none. Seems to me if people want to see naked people doing it, there’s this thing called “the internet.”

Didn't realize nudity was forced into the show.

Bravo to the person that mandated it.

Great interview. It seems like he was speaking directly to SFP at some parts.

Did you imagine that there would be so much audience speculation that Rust or Marty was the murderer, or was that a frustrating surprise as the show has unfolded?

NP: It was a little surprising, but not frustrating at all, just part of the experience of having people connect to the show. The possibility is built into the story, as it has to be credible that the 2012 PD suspect Cohle. I just thought that such a revelation would be terrible, obvious writing. For me, the worst writing generally just “flips” things: this person’s really a traitor; it was all a dream; etc. Nothing is so ruinous as a forced “twist,” I think.

Wow, great interview. Couple things.

He's been researching 40 years of southern California government. He is currently writing season 2. He mentions the colour palette changing and mentions S.Louisiana as green and burnished gold.

I am seeing a SoCal set season 2 with imagery/color palette/culture drawing heavily on inspiration from the following image.

So are we to assume that it will be a California-based political corruption arc? Hmmmm...

I wonder if the women will be "tiffany twisted" in season 2 and will all smell like "colitas"???

I am curious what his "binary system" comment was all about, though...

We should have a thread discussing everyone's theories on what it means.

Marty is the 0 and Rust is the 1. They are separate entities but part of the same program.

This first thing that came to mind for me was good and evil. This thought might imply some kind of absolutism that doesn't exactly fit the show though.

What if it was an off the cuff remark that means what he meant it to mean. In that it is actually meaningless to the show. As if he was saying the audience might as well think binary systems, because they are so off base so far that thinking about binary systems instead of theories would be more beneficial to their "theories"

Very possible. "Think about the air-speed velocity of an unladen swallow."
