Beginning in the spring of 2016, students will take a redesigned SAT the board says focuses on more relevant vocabulary words that "students will use consistently in college and beyond," draws from fewer math topics and does not deduct points for incorrect answers, as it has done in the past. The essay section, which was first made mandatory in the SAT's 2005 revamp that also established its current 2400-point scale, now will be optional and separately scored.

Congratulations on your future 1500+ scores, high school kids.

What is the point in these changes?

A mixture of students and helicopter parents being pissed that "twerk" wasn't in the verbal section and the fact that math is hard.

Heard this on the radio kids were complaining it was too hard.

Said it was mostly minorities such as blacks, Hispanics, and Latinos complaining.

Also said they would get free SAT training classes not sure if that extends to white and Asian kids

Anything to avoid uncomfortable realities. They're taking AP classes out of Math and English too. Grade performance is racist and unfair. We have to lower the bar for everyone.

Yep, as part of Common Core. Being exceptional is not fair. People have things not because they earned them, but because they were given to them.

So true, because all of the other minorities are in the same boat, because of racism and unfairness. Oh wait.

All I have to say is that the essay part was BS. I took it when it was in a trial phase so the essay didn't count. I wrote a fricking awesome essay that they didn't like because my opinions weren't "popular." The topic was something along the lines of "do you believe that every kid should be required to take part in athletics" and I said in a nicer way, "no, I don't want any more fat asses diluting my sports teams."

Is that for real? All the AP classes saved me a lot of time in college and allowed me to take 12 hours almost every semester.

ACT is kicking the "new and improved" SAT's buttocks.

De facto yes. Many AP classes in both subjects conflict with it.

how so? The scores of either test is irrelevant, it's the associated percentile that schools use to weed out the masses.

Elite universities rely on SAT scores, and people who's results rank them in the elite range have no reason to also take additional standardized tests...however, those who don't, often take a swing at the ACT.

The ACT is set to make mucho dollars because state ed. departments are finally realizing that their standardized tests mean nothing to colleges--only the SAT and ACT do. ACT jumped on this and the College Board (SAT) is shaking in its boots regarding the possibility of lost revenue and popularity.
