Its skipping. Just advance the needle one or two grooves and it should play. If it is badly scratched expect a lot more.

Duck this might be the problem. This one is old. What should I play from Bob Seger's greatest hits? Mainstreet?

Why not right now? Then you could avoid rejection from that model.

It is already over. I can tell you're a beta though if you're worried about rejection.

This thread has me cracking up!

I'm sure it's too late, but any old timer can tell you what a skip on record player is and some ways to deal with it.

First, make sure there's no dust/ debris on the vinyl. Use some felt and wipe it in the direction of the grooves. And/or blow on it.

If the scratches are too bad and too many, there's not much that can be done. Most records will develope a skip/ repeat somewhere along the track. Just advance the needle a bit.

One more trick from the old school guys - tape a quarter to the top of the stylus arm above the needle.

Seems like that would damage the records faster.

Doesn't damage the records, but it'll wear out the needle.

false. Single greatest impact on record wear is stylus weight.

My sister's Barry Mainlow records beg to differ. Unless those albums were forged in titanium infused polymers cuz those bastards never wore out, even after being played daily for 10 years with "weighted" needles.
