WaPo (paraphrasing): "Our President Is an Embarrassment"

A really great read for anyone interested: LINK
quote:
For much of his time in office, President Obama has been accused by a mix of conservative hawks and liberal interventionists of overseeing a dangerous retreat from the world at a time when American influence is needed most.
The once-hopeful Arab Spring has staggered into civil war and military coup. China is stepping up territorial claims in the waters off East Asia. Longtime allies in Europe and in the Persian Gulf are worried by the inconsistency of a president who came to office promising the end of the United States’ post-Sept. 11 wars.
Now Ukraine has emerged as a test of Obama’s argument that, far from weakening American power, he has enhanced it through smarter diplomacy, stronger alliances and a realism untainted by the ideology that guided his predecessor.
It will be a hard argument for him to make, analysts say.
A president who has made clear to the American public that the “tide of war is receding” has also made clear to foreign leaders, including opportunists in Russia, that he has no appetite for a new one. What is left is a vacuum once filled, at least in part, by the possibility of American force.
quote:
“If you are effectively taking the stick option off the table, then what are you left with?” said Andrew C. Kuchins, who heads the Russia and Eurasia Program at the Center for Strategic and International Studies. “I don’t think that Obama and his people really understand how others in the world are viewing his policies.”
quote:
Rarely has a threat from a U.S. president been dismissed as quickly — and comprehensively — as Obama’s warning Friday night to Russian President Vladimir Putin. The former community organizer and the former Cold Warrior share the barest of common interests
quote:
There are rarely good — or obvious — options in such a crisis. But the position Obama is in, confronting a brazenly defiant Russia and with few ways to meaningfully enforce his threat, has been years in the making. It is the product of his record in office . . .
Ukraine has challenged administration officials — and Obama’s assessment of the world — again.

There is nothing new under the sun. Weak, feckless leaders embolden bad actors 100% of the time. They are as dangerous, in their own way, as cowboys.

Welcome to 2008 when many people we screaming from the rooftops that this guy would be a disaster.

Yes. And. I was completely wrong.
I posted many times that I would hold my nose and vote McCain. But, ONLY because i opposed the spending programs O was selling.
Many posters warned of the "dangers" and i stated that I was not afraid of an Obama presidency.
I said he was intelligent and loved his country. I said he would not be incompetent and dishonest (any more than other pols)
I was wrong. I have a difficult time when the "supporters" refuse to acknowledge the dishonest and disingenuous ways of this admin. And, he is inept to boot.
I did not see it coming. But, others did. I remember.

Hey..Its "take a fork in the road" guy.
This road (subject of this thread) is a little bumpy and uncomfortable. Let's discuss "cowboys" instead

President's with cowboy "mentalities" are. Putin and Obama are opposite sides of the same disastrous coin. They practically deserve each other.

When does the US stop being the world's goddamn policeman? Hell, we instigate most of this shite ourselves with our unwarranted involvement in shite we don't need to involve ourselves in. The Russians and the Ukrainians have a history that goes back centuries. It is none of our damn business what kind of relationship the various parts of Ukraine want to have with Russia. It is in the EU sphere of influence anyway. Our meddling in the Middle East is why there is so much hatred for us and problems there in the first place. Oil in Saudi Arabia, our support for Israel at the expense of the Palestinians. We create most of our problems by meddling. This isn't the 1960's anymore. We are scratching a broke arse economically. That tired mentality needs to go.

It IS a post-American world. We just shot our wad the last 13 years. We have no moral authority anymore. We waged an illegal war in Iraq for which Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld and that crew of thugs should have been prosecuted for war crimes. Our CIA meddles in and instigates shite all over the world but Americans are still on this nationalistic Go America stupidity. Those days are over. At some point humans have to move past thinking that we have to slaughter and threaten each other to solve our problems. The human race is on the verge of extinction and I think that may not be a bad thing for the planet and the Universe in general. We are too short sighted, backward and stupid to deserve to survive.
