and other identity protection services? Are they really needed? is it a waste of money?

I see these ads all the time and wonder if its worth it? I am sure they serve a purpose, but if your careful with your info is it really needed?

While I agree with what you are saying, to play devils advocate, do you think the Christmas shoppers at Target were careful with their info?

I had someone open a Lowe's card in my name several yrs ago. I can't explain how difficult it was to get all of that off of my credit report. It was an absolute nightmare.

I currently pay for myself, my girlfriend and my oldest son for a Life Lock acct and to me it is totally worth it. Now, when an acct is being opened I instantly get an alert asking if it is me. All I have to do is log in and say yes or no. If it's not me, they do all of the work and shut it down before it's opened and start an investigation.
