The way they view their marriage is fascinating to me. In no way do I believe that they are truly in love, but do you have to be in love to be married? They realized early on that they could both benefit greatly if the two were married. It seems that they have a deep trust for each other, but would you call it love?

I guess what I'm asking is if a real life companionship like this could work? And what other interesting things do you see in their relationship?

Obviously they have some type of open relationship but at the end of the day I still think they truly do love each other.

they absolutely are in love IMO. just not the lovey dovey type. just like a partnership where they're both on the same page in almost every aspect of their lives. they're the best example of soul mates I've seen in tv/movies

This is exactly what I was trying to get at without just asking a simple yes/no question. I can never remember seeing a more perfect couple in any movie/tv show. They are perfect for each other in every way.

I'm not just referring to the 3 some seen, but just overall. I think you see the true ruthless side of Clair in the 2nd season.

They are deeply in love imo

they communicate better than 99% of marriages and they respect each other

the 3some really solidifies how they're on the same page in nearly everything. it was completely unspoken, like they just both knew what they wanted and knew the moment would come.

or come twice, amirite?

I agree with this 100%

They don't have sex, show true affection towards each other unless sharing a cig or it's a special day, and he will never say he loves her. I don't know... I guess there has to be some love between them.

I don't know why I am hung up on this... I just started thinking last night if this could work IRL, and my biggest problem was it would have to be a couple exactly like Clair and Francis and I don't know if that's possible.

I think they're above the necessity to remind each other of their love. it's just understood.

See I thought they planned it out... Francis liked Ed and when he got to watch Clair she liked him. So they got him drunk and seduced him. Can he really say no to the VP, the guy that got him his job back.

But I could be over thinking it

Frank stated in ep 1 that he loved her more than anything.

But until like the 11th(maybe 12th?) episode of the 2nd season he never once told HER on camera that he loved her. She then responded with "I know." Im pretty sure they were in their kitchen.

Disclaimer- It may have been the other way around. She might have said I love you and he responded with I know.

the response was "I know" because they both know they love each other and don't have to constantly reinforce that. it's understood and they likely feel that the constant reassurance is a trait of the insecure. ie, people say I love you so they get the response back easing the fear of their partner falling out of love.

How about when she leaves to go stay with Adam in season 1, then clearly still has feelings for him when they make him look foolish?

Maybe they just really like Star Wars.

I think he just represents a different world for her. carefree and not worried about power and responsibility.
