Loomis needs to do a better job of counting beans.

Many of us have marveled at Loomis' ability to get contracts done...forget about the fact that we would be better off today if they hadn't. We're now paying the price for his "creative accounting" and the bleeding won't stop for awhile. Just read a n article on the cap mess that the Cowboys are in and I can't help but think that Loomis read the "Jerry Jones Handbook On Fiscal Ignorance". Looks like we're headed in the same direction.
Every-time I read a story about teams having long term cap problems, the Saints are always in the mix:
Looking At Cowboys Alarming Cap Mess
As it sits now, the Saints are ranked 3rd highest with cap commitments in 2015...we have over $114,000,000 committed to just 36 players for the 2015 cap year (this doesn't even count Graham.

I bring this topic up because of the continuous threads suggesting that we restructure this player's contract or that player's contract without really looking at the long term implications. I also bring it up because of the "Just Pay The Man" mentality some folks have.
As the old saying goes: "You can pay me now, or pay me later!" We are doing both.
Every-time I read a story about teams having long term cap problems, the Saints are always in the mix:

There are several ways that a team can manipulate their salary cap in order to clear up space in the short term. But each of these manipulation practices carry big-picture costs.
The Cowboys have consistently used these different techniques, which is why their current situation is so alarming. Jason’s up-to-date estimates have Dallas at $24,614,943 over the 2014 projected cap. And because of the Cowboys’ past moves, the only way that they’ll get under this figure in time for the 2014 league year is by exposing themselves to even greater cap problems in the future.
The Saints and Lions cut loose some of their current players in order to clear up cap space this past week. On Wednesday the Saints saved $16.905 million in 2014 cap space by parting ways with veterans Will Smith, Jabari Greer and S Roman.

His mistakes have more to do with paying players too late leading to them getting larger contracts.
Drew Brees, Evans, and Grubs were must have players. Roman Harper was overpaid, but Williams demanded it. Vilma should have been cut, but Loomis isn't going to have authority over Payton. Payton is loyal and probably overvalues veteran leadership and team guys

We're going to continuously push it until Brees retires. We'll have to build through the draft.

We're actually 4th behind the Cowboys, Cardinals, and Chiefs. It also has a lot to do with Brees escalation in his contract which had to happen.

FIFY. At least the Saints have playoffs appearances, and a recent Championship to show for it, while the Cowboys do not.

Forget about competing with the Cowboys for playoff appearances or Lombardi trophies as long as JJ is calling the shots.

Maybe so; there's a first time for everything.

One of the major things in this rediculous thread blaming loomis is that it takes a lot of money to pay good veteran players. The saints want these veterans because they only have a small window to build a team around a hof qb that the saints haven't had in franchise history. They see their window and even if it may seem to mess things up a little they need to build now and not later.

Point out one damn thing that's not accurate in my post. You can't.

Trust us it is. Its hard to see when you carry around biased hatred toward the thread subject.

It's not really a bias when the facts are all there

Sure, there are facts present, but the implication that Loomis isn't a good GM because of a high cap total approaching, is asinine.
We always flirt with the cap early, and he gets us under.

The team is trying to win championships right now every season. We arent building for 10 years from now. Those are the facts. Are you really that ignorant?

Loomis has made a lot of players rich like fat Grant, Brooks, Meachem. They all owe him a party.

Im not debating that we arent in "win now" mode.
Doesn't mean it's the right way to go about it. It just means it an easy excuse for you to use to defend Loomis

You have any better ways to keep players like Brees, graham, evans, jordan, etc without paying them money any other team would also pay? How about we start signing contracts with bitcoins?
