I searched the "hitting problem" thread and didn't see anyone mention that CPM said we need to hit the ball on the ground and not in the air.

I heard it on wafb news at 10 so was likely from post-game presser.

How about we start benching pop-fly guys? May make the position battles easier to see a winner...

Bregman batted in the bottom of the 5th with 2 men on. He took your advice and look where that got us.

I dont understand why "hit the ball on the ground" is sound advice. I know you have a much better probability of finding a hole and getting on base which is the true factor in run scoring, but the advice should be "stop swinging for the fences and drive the ball middle-away". "Hit the ball on the ground" comes off as not being aggressive.

I won't say that, but you can't deny that the teams that have won the title the past 3 years, have depended on low line drives and hits on the ground vs. fly outs to the warning track. The game doesn't allow for gorilla ball anymore.

I wouldn't call swinging at a low 1-0 breaking ball, battling

We'll see how much the new ball makes a difference next year. It definitely won't be gorilla ball, but maybe it can at least get close to 09-10 levels.

'11-'14 has been probably the worst college baseball I've ever watched in my lifetime.

That is the advice. Drive hit where it's pitched.

They don't want them hitting it in the air because it's fairly routine to catch a fly ball.

A lot more goes into fielding a ground ball and making the throw to first.

Exactly. Andy Lopez and Arizona were fairly successful with it when they won the natty a couple years back.

Andy Lopez's hitting philosophy is centered on two main things: "Low and Hard." This simply means he wants all of his hitters to get their hands on top of the baseball to make good, hard contact with bottom hand extension, which results in more ground balls and line drives.

I'd say PM is on to something.

Hitting it in the air was great advice in the 90s and even 09 as a lot of those hits just kept carrying in the box and rosenblatt.

It's like LSU didn't get the memo about the new stadium last year.

Saying out loud that we need to hit the ball on the ground and not in the air makes me feel at ease now that there is evidence we actually coach our hitters how to hit.

And while we're at it also hit the ball where fielders aren't

I hate many of our "knowledgeable" fans

I agree. I think they knew they were running out of time.

Hitting is one of those things where the harder you try to make something happen, the less likely it is. You lose your head and begin to overthink or get impatient, it's all over.

Hopefully in the next few years we will start the process to analyze the science behind this new theory and within a few short years after the analysis is complete we will make a decision either way to start to adapt or not.
