A buddy asked me if I wanted to carry one in Nola this weekend, just wondering if anyone had done it before?

Besides scooping up horseshite, I couldn't think of a worse way to spend my time during a parade.

That was what I always thought but it seems since Katrina its not the case.

In fulll disclosure as a kid I used to pick up the change because I had no idea that was how those guys got paid.

Women are doing it too now.

All-female flambeaux troupe to join Muses parade

NEW ORLEANS, LA (WVUE) - Something new will light the way for the Krewe of Muses this year. Keep an eye out for the first-ever all-female flambeaux troupe appropriately named "The Glambeaux."

In a news release, the Krewe announced the Glambeaux will parade with Muses on Thursday, Feb. 27. They say the 24-member group will be "fully costumed in fire colors and wielding their torches to a choreographed soundtrack."

Glambeaux Captain Dani Johnson says she got the idea while watching last year's Muses parade. She says when one of the flambeaux carriers stopped in front of where she was standing, she asked if he thought women could physically carry and handle the flambeaux.

"His answer was yes, and that was the beginning of the Glambeaux," said Johnson.

Johnson says any tips the Glambeaux receive along the route will go to a non-profit called "Women With a Vision." According to the news release, the organization's mission is to improve the lives of marginalized women, their families, and the community by addressing the social conditions that hinder their health and well-being.

Guess I've always just been drunk or didn't pay enough attention to notice. Always still looked homeless to me. I imagine it has to be miserable to do it though. Just my opinion.

Your uncle sounds like a dick. And I usually see those guys wearing gloves anyway.

couldn't bring myself to do that when I was younger...but we would take super glue and apply liberally to one side of a quarter...turn the quarter glue side down on the asphalt... apparently we learned doing this on cement wont work...then you take a hammer and hit it really hard...you cant get them up without a screwdriver or chisel...good times!
