Kaplan/Schweser by far.

Also I recommend cyanide.

I used the CFA books themselves for Level I, but had dumped them in favor of Schweser by Level II. I will say that the CFA reading material can be pretty academic, and might be more interesting for you if you're using the CFA curriculum primarily for learning purposes. Schweser is pretty boiled down.

I plan on actually taking the test. Just picked up the Schweser materials that includes everything. It's last year's version, though.

You'll be fine with last year's version. If you have the time, read the CFA material first, and then switch to Schweser full time afterwards. The CFA material is a tremendous resource.

Could you link the CFA material you're talking about?

Very, very little is different. You're not missing any critical information.

It's Kaplan. They've been scamming us for over a half century.

You're forced to buy them - its part of the sign up fee.

But here:

It doesnt matter, you dont have the option, you have to buy them. They dont have names, the CFAI has their own material.

There are always ways...and I just picked them up.

Anyways, I appreciate the help. Any idea how long I will have to study to pass the first level? I'm pretty much starting from scratch.

Depends on how much experience you've had in finance already. Regardless, the CFA is a test of how much time you put in to study. For the I, I did a month but I wouldn't recommend that to really anybody. I'd aim at 2-3 months for the I, but you better start studying for the II in February.

I studied for about three months for Level I, but was actively involved in finance by that time which made certain sections, particularly Equity and FSA, relatively easy to fly through.

There's no magic number, but they typically advise you to put in 300 hours which is ironic, given no one in finance actually has that much free time to devote to this test.

You could spend 100 or less hours purely taking practice problems and crush Level One.

Main thing is solidifying the big point sections. FRA, Econ, etc.

I thought FI was going to be my weak topic, and it was one of my better.

For those who attempted and passed the CPA, how does this compare?
