There is a search function

No, it would hurt them. Instead of them getting the only two senators, the GOP would probably get almost half of them.

Why does anyone want to help the Dems? Haven't they done enough damage to this country?

Additionally, in presidential elections CA's current 55 electoral votes will get divided between Dems and Reps. The Dems have all 55 EVs now.

This isn't the story that people think it is.
This is about California trying to find a way out of paying off the unfunded liabilities known as public employee unions without having to pay them.
There are over $350 billion owed for those very generous pensions in which over 12,200 are getting more than $100,000 a year retirement. Add that to California having 24% of its population now living below the poverty line in wages with 1/3 of the nations welfare money going to Californians.
How can the state get out from under this? Dissolve and create new states and have it passed on to the rest of the states to pay by the federal government picking up the tab.

I doubt it would even help Republicans that much in the Senate and could even backfire.
quote:
Using 2012 presidential election vote tallies as a baseline, we've determined that the Six Californias would break down this way: 1) Three solidly blue states (North California, Silicon Valley, West California) 2) Three swing states (Jefferson, Central California and South California - two of which would lean Republican). Here's a breakdown of the politics of each one.
How the “Six Californias” proposal would shake up the electoral map
North California, Silicon Valley, West California will put 2 Democratic senators every year.
Jefferson would probably put 2 Republican Senators every year.
With the other 4 senate seats up for grabs.
Central California 2008 probably barely went for Obama and 2012 we know barely went to Romney
quote:
In 2012, Romney would have carried Central California by about 14,000 votes. With a number of both Democratic-leaning and Republican-leaning counties, Central California would be a Congressional battleground with a good chance of sending a bipartisan delegation to Washington DC every two years.
South California
quote:
Comprised of the five southern-most California counties, South California would contain San Diego, Santa Ana, and all of Orange County. A military-rich and relatively affluent state, South California would be another political battleground. When 2012 vote totals for the counties that make up South California are tallied, Obama narrowly defeats Romney.
You wouldn't really be sure who would win this. SoCal would be a true battleground every year.
The 6 State Change Effects would be
House of Representatives: Barely any change
Senate: 6 Senate Seats Dem. 2 Senate Seats Gop. 4 Undecided.
Best Possible Scenarios
Dem: 10 Senators | +6 Senators over the Current 2
Gop: 6 Senators | +2 Senators over the Current 0. It would cancel Cali's Senate influence.
My Guess
8 Dem. Senators | 4 Gop Senators
Dems would gain more influence than currently in the Senate than Currently.I really doubt the GOP could ever shut Democrats of the Senate in SoCal.
Presidential Elections
This would Favor Republicans in all scenarios.
At Worse, The GOP pick up Electoral Votes in Jefferson.
At Best, The GOP could take Central and Southern Cali electoral votes.
SoCal and Central Cal will become battleground states.
Personally, I think the Democrats will turn up the get out to vote option in presidential years and win SoCal. You also have to take into account future demographics as well.
Central Cal I could definitely see going GOP in presidential elections regardless of what dems do.
The Path to the GOP Presidency becomes easier with 6 states.
(Some States obviously don't compare well when looking at presidential elections and Senate Elections vote tallies.Central\Southern Cali could be a battleground state in presidential election but always buts 2 GOP\DEM Senators.)

It would help the textile industry. Millions of new US flags.

Illegals and Dems.

The House of Representatives would go Dem because I have a feeling there will not be an increase in the number of seats so with L.A. County (which has more people than 42 states) would be mostly dem representatives as well as the bay area state of Silicon Valley.
BTW, if these were to be the names of the states, the University of Southern California would be located in the State of West California.

Here are two articles worth reading about the issues in this state, which looks like a mini-version of the nation with the libs on the coast and the conservatives inland suburban areas like I.E. and rural towns and farming communities.

What a mess and no way to fix it as far as I can see.

If the democrats can pick up 8 out of the 12 Senate seats across those states, it helps them. As long as the republicans can pick up 5 or more seats, it hurts the democrats. If the republicans can win at least one of those states in a presidential election, it helps the GOP immensely.

That's a good bit of info for when a conversation turns to secession and they say the South are welfare queens and the rest of the nation would be better off without.
