Have about a 500 soft area that I need some grass for. Too early for sod? Better to use seed? It is a mix of sun and some shade.

Don't think it's to early. Might not be exact time of year. Check with your local nursery about your area.

For that size you do want to lay sod. Seed is good for patch jobs, but sod is what you're going to want.

Yes, get it down now and take advantage of the spring rain and showers so you won't have to water as much

Where there is sun should be fine. My backyard has finally come back after those days of 75 plus degrees days.

Yes. Get it down today and it will get some nice water this week.

I just finished cutting my grass and put out weed and feed to kill the three patches of clover I have every year.

Time for a beer.

This site is pretty cool for calculating: Sod Calc

I'd use it as a base then call a few places to find the best price.

Maybe around $250 delivered if you're DIYing it. You'll need just a little more than one pallet. Been a long time since I've priced retail sod prices.

Make sure you don't buy the cheapest. I know from experience.
