I just spoke w/ a customer who brought her laptop in last week.

The system board is dead, the laptop is about 5 years old and I told her it wasn't worth repairing. She's got about 100GB of data on the drive (mostly music). I told her to bring another computer or an external drive in and I could transfer the data to it.

Well, a week passes so I call the customer back to follow up. She tells me she bought a Mac and asks me if her laptop will turn on. I told her it will not. She says the Apple store told her they could transfer data if the laptop turned on, but if it wouldn't run, they couldn't do anything.

Really? Does the same go if you bring a dead Mac in? Is this particular store just being lazy shitbag techs or is this the general competency of Apple stores?

They are mostly just sales people and only do very light technical stuff in house, they send the shite back to Apple for anything major. Some of them probably could do it, but it's not how Apple runs their stores.

You're upset that the store that services MACs wouldn't remove an old PC HD, find some cradle for it and copy over this persons documents..

I don't think they sold her one anymore than a crack dealer sells crack. She showed up to buy one.

She went in there to buy a Mac because all her dumbass friends were telling her how orgasmic they are.

That's fine, I don't care..I was just wondering if all Apple stores are incompetent or just the one she went to.

No, why would you think I'm upset? What if the sale depended on it, do you think they could take on that huge challenge of having an adapter and copying some files?

But you know how much data is on it

So why didn't you just transfer the data off when you hooked up to find out she had 100GB worth of Music

Wow, you are a moron aren't you? System boards don't hold data, hard drives do.

I did transfer the data, to my shop machine, now how would you like me to deliver it to the customer, jackass?

It's not incompetence, it's a service they don't offer. They aren't going to work on your PCs because they don't sell PCs. If they have an issue with an Apple product, they have facilities set up to handle that if it is beyond something easy. It most likely won't be in store because it's not how they set themselves up to do business.

frickface, can you read? I asked her to bring me either A.) Another computer or B.) an external hard drive to transfer the data to, so that I could give it to her. After she called me with her Mac story, I told her to bring the Mac here and I would transfer it...what part of this story are you not understanding?

The Apple Store is a place where they sell shite. Not a place where they repair PCs.
