If you could choose one current "intellectual"

to be more popular in our society, who would it be and why?
I'm gonna go w/ Tom Woods. His arguments seem to be iron clad and he argues his points in a very articulate, well mannered tone, which is the most persuasive way to debate IMO.
I think if more people knew about him and his arguments, minds would change about history, politics and economics pretty quickly.

i still have no idea what Noam's main principles are, and he goes back and forth on philosophies...sometimes within the same paragraph of the same statement

Sowell is good. I like Krauthammer, also..

i don't get that from him, but i can see how a conservative would.

Sowell was my second choice. He's the person that really started to changed the way I see the world...and he did it in the span of just one book, "The Vision of the Anointed".

I find Noam to be a bit hypocritical. I don't think he realizes that government ownership of the means of production inevitably leads to unfree media and press.

I agree.
Most other posters will put forth a name that is already popular, and Tom Woods is only known by those who get their news without the aid of the television.

he's not a state socialist, he's a libertarian socialist.
although personally i do find him an extremist in that sense. I would like his writings on the media to be more circulated than they are.

did you read the article? he wasn't talking about Obama (although he's not a fan), he was talking about the reaction to Obama.

I would choose Milton Friedman, Murray Rothbard, Tom Woods and basically make Ron Paul more eloquent with his dialogue.

Three way tie:
Woods
Sowell
Williams
Woods
Sowell
Williams

noam believes in anarchy under an organized, federal structure and believe libertarianism is a form of tyranny
like i said, his views are hypocritical. his whole schtick is like one big philosophy attempting to gather all talking points/memes of liberal-progressive thought. he uses big words and uses confusing wording to never derive a coherent, single philosophy
he celebrates socialist societies then claims he supports freedom. he calls limited government tyranny and supports anarchism...under a larger federal structure eliminating liberty and forcing a form of organization

Speaking of Rothbard, does anyone here have a link to him debating? I've seen his lectures and read some of his stuff, but I've never seen or read a debate of his.

i never said sowell was perfect. he's gotten very crunchy in his old age. i much prefer his work in the 70s and 80s
but, the point was, a Reductio ad Hitlerum argument is a logical fallacy regardless of who says it
chomsky is just as guilty as sowell. neither are perfect in that respect
