Question for Beekeepers

So I'm starting a new hobby and have a few questions.
I have 3 hives about 30 feet from my Purple Martin house. Any beekeepers out there know if my martins will wipe out my bees? They normally feed on high flying insects, but I'm concerned that the birds are going to do damage.
Thanks.

You're a good man. Beekeeping is a dying vocation and I understand that the USA is in danger of bee's going away ( maybe not in our lifetime). I did a little research because I've never thought about it, but without bees this country is in trouble.

Don't want to hijack..., BUT. What's the best way for one to get in to beekeeping with absolutely no background in the craft or connections?

they won't eat any more bees than any other birds will...
I've watched birds dive bomb my hives and it doesn't begin to make a dent. If you haven't already you should contact the local beekeepers club in your area. They got my wife and I started and without fail are some of the nicest people you'll ever meet

When I was a kid, my dad bought a hive and ordered bees from a catalog(I think). They came in a box in the mail. It was pretty fun for a few years. We had the bee had and smoker and all that kinda good stuff.
I've really been thinking about getting a hive to teach my kids about them.

First buy a book on bee keeping.

Years ago someone gave me some hives, minus the bees. Back then there were lots of swarns to catch. I even put out bait hives and attracted swarms. I really enjoyed working with bees. Now it's a whole new ball game with the bee mites and africanized bees. I don't have bees anymore but I would like to get a hive or two. Best bet is to find a bee keeper to help keep you on track.
I had an older bee keeper coaching me but then I learned how to extract a colony out of a house without tearing into the house, I could catch the colony and all the honey.
