I'm not buying the hype. They weren't that good last year.

D011ahbi11's opinion or Aaron Fitt's opinion?

quote:

Love the Cajuns this year -- feel like they are strong Omaha contenders. When we start the process for putting together our Top 25 in early December, the first thing I do is go in depth on 40 or so teams, grading them out in a bunch of categories (hitting, power, defense, speed, starting pitching, bullpen, experience/intangibles) and averaging the grades just to get a raw feel for how they stack up. The Cajuns actually had the second or third-highest raw average, behind only Virginia and maybe Indiana. So on paper, that team looks very complete -- powerful, athletic, fast, strong on defense, experienced in the bullpen, and with three potential power arms in the rotation. The big key for me is how well those two juco transfers (Carson Baranik and Greg Milhorn) handle rotation spots; they have ability, but they are unknowns. If the pitching is as good as I think it might be, and all those upperclassmen in the lineup successfully handle the weight of expectations, those guys will go a very long way.

LSU fans don't like him because he didn't put LSU in the top 10. They're all butthurt on the comment section of that page.

He seems pretty high on Indiana to me. Maybe he's a Big 10 homer too. Quick glance at his regional projections and he had 4 SEC teams and 4 ACC teams hosting. Is that really unrealistic?

Indiana is a solid team and no thats not unrealistic. Having Virginia ranked ahead of CSF in his preseason poll is quite foolish however.

I noticed a few polls had CSF a little farther down. I'd have them at number 1 but are they going to hit well?

Do any west coast teams hit well? Their starting rotation is disgusting and thats most important in college baseball in its current state.

He didnt talk about Indiana at all last year until he watched them in person and then he wouldnt shut up about them. Same with New Mexico.

Obviously I disagree with him. I've seen him have Tulane in his top 25 enough times lately to know his opinion is not the end all be all. I liked Will Kimmey at Baseball America much more than Fitt.

I certainly see the appeal of UL-L though. They are one of the few teams that could hit and hit for power last year. I'm going to have to see them pitch well and duplicate that hitting before I buy into them as a Super Regional-CWS team.
