Has had injury issues most of his career, but played in all 16 games last season. According to Rotoworld, "He was an every-down player, tallying 64 tackles, two sacks and three interceptions across 1,058 snaps." He's a very physical player and quick to the ball. He'd be a perfect fit in the defense next to Vaccaro if the price is right.

Calvin Pryor, potential 1st round safety out of Louisville compares very similarly to Delmas even though he's a few inches taller.

Could be had for a reasonable deal.

Thoughts?

My thought would be to get a doctor who is not our doctor to check him out.
The guy has been a walking emergency ward.

All of our Defenders either are hurt, or play hurt. I don't trust our medical staff.

also from roto-
The fact that Delmas obviously wouldn't agree to a pay cut, thereby earning his release, is a sign he's going to exhaust all options before coming back to Detroit. Since he was released, Delmas is free to immediately begin taking visits, and can sign at any time. Although he's unlikely to get the $6 million he was slated to earn before he was cut loose, Delmas shouldn't lack for suitors. He was targeted by the Rams last season, while a reunion with former coach Jim Schwartz in Buffalo could make sense.

also here's roto ranking of free agent safeties-
1. Jairus Byrd
2. T.J. Ward
3. Donte Whitner
4. Antoine Bethea
5. Chris Clemons
6. Malcolm Jenkins
7. Stevie Brown
8. Major Wright
9. Nate Allen
10. Michael Mitchell
11. Charles Woodson
12. Nick Collins
13. Ryan Clark
14. James Ihedigbo
15. Bernard Pollard

I'd put him between Bethea and Wright. Roto ranks him higher- "Delmas is a top-five option in a safety market led by Jairus Byrd and T.J. Ward."

2014 was the first time he ever played in all 16 games. Gotta be skeptical about that.

Don't think the Saints would compete in multi year deals. With his history he might take a 1 year 'prove it' deal (prove he can stay healthy) to get a bigger payday in 2015. That would be my best guess for hope to NOLA.

He played 15 games in each of his first two seasons. Seasons 3 and 4 are when he missed most of them (played 11 in 2011 and just 8 in 2012). Looking at it, it hasn't been as bad as it seems. I would be really worried if he missed games this year, but he didn't and he still managed to have a nice season.

I agree there's some risk involved, but he's a good player and his injury history will bring his price tag down.

It's also worth mentioning that he's 26 right now and will be 27 to start the season. Considerable upside in a value signing as he should just be entering his prime.

To me reward > risk.

I think "Thoughts?" has been my form of "Should we?"

I like it a lot better because people are less inclined to yes or no answers and add real input instead. I'm always trying to get the most out of my friends on ST

but staying on topic.

I like Delmas, but I can honestly say that I think Rafael Bush has the best shot at winning our SS position. Unless something crazy happens and we signed one of the top 3 free agent safeties.

Thats fine. What do they do for depth? Right now, its him, Vaccaro and some guys that didn't play a down at Safety last season.

I remember liking him coming out of college. Would be a great depth signing at least for the right price

I think Bush goes into the season as the a starting safety. However, considering how much we played with 3 safeties this year, I think Delmas would be a great addition to the back end. Especially if he comes inexpensively.

I'm trying to tell you we going to sign somone like Danny McCray out of Dallas or bradon meriweather type guy for depth. We will hit free agency hard for offensive line and kicker. I think we will sign a big name o line men to protect Bree's . We are going to spend money on a kicker. I see is bargain shopping for a safety for depth. I can see us getting a safety, kicker, and a o line men and a center in agency then drafting wrs linebackers and corners and another te in the draft and maybe a young o line men and a backup qb .

Resigning Jenkins is a no brainer IMO.

I'm hoping another team won't over pay him and we can keep his "talents" in Nola. Hopefully he knows he won't be a successful starter anywheres else and doesn't leave for a little extra $$. Then we keep him at comfortable veteran contract. It could happen

Maybe Prob and Corey White can play some at Ryan's hybrid safety position?

I doubt that. The only lineman they'll spend relatively big on is Strief. They've got too much tied up in the line as it is, especially with Grubbs being overpaid.

Danny McCray out of Dallas

If they sign any safety that played for Dallas this year and expect them to play any sort of role, I have serious questions about this team's ability to scout.

I doubt this, too. There's not likely to be enough cash to go around to bring in a kicker on anything more than the veteran minimum.

Danny McCray had his best season with rob so I can see him coming to here for depth cheaper then Jenkins and he can tackle really good compare to Harper and Jenkins combine.

Weeks when Delmas was on the Lions injury report
2013- EVERY week, probable in all but one
2012- Probable 1 week, Questionable EVERY other week, missed 8 games
2011- Injury report 12 weeks, missed 5 games
2010- 8 Questionable weeks, 1 Probable, 1 missed
2009- Injury Report 8 weeks, i missed

If your leery of a guy from an injury history standpoint, this is one of them to be concerned with. The Detroit buzz was that he was always dinged up even when he was playing much of the time. Some guys are that way perpetually. Others sometimes just turn it around.

Ex: Reggie- he's missed 3 games since he left here. 666 rushes in 3 yrs versus 524 total in 5yrs here.

Here's your guy. Terrible in Philly, but would be a guy to develop under Ryan, even if for only a season. Rafael Bush is who I would love to see start at our SS. The guy is a big hitter and physical. We need depth behind him, so get a guy like Allen, young and teachable. Delmas is too injury prone and I'll take Bush over Delmas at this point in their careers anyday.

Mike Mitchell busted up to another level with the Panthers last year. There's always the "at the right price" caveat but it nice to create a starter hole on your divisional competitor.

Lofton has been solid tho not all world. Atlanta however has had an ongoing hole in the middle since he left. Dent lost the job to undrafted Worrilow who also struggled.

They just suck at scouting and drafting I think. Yea, Julio is a great player in the NFL, but they still haven't recovered from all the crap they gave up just to get him. After paying Ryan, Julio is next up and he's going to demand even more money than Graham. Not sure what their cap situation is, but the way they've been drafting they may end up being a league bottom feeder in 2-4 years. Defense is horrendous, oline is pathetic, no run game, etc, etc. Dimitrioff has survived on the drafting of Matt Ryan and Julio Jones. Outside of those two those bums haven't drafted anyone of merit. Sean Witherspoon is decent, but no all-world either. Whatever, I'm done with my ATL rant and don't even know where it came from. Basically, they suck.
