For the uninitiated or just if you want to listen to it again: 5/7/94 Tweezerfest

Tweezerfest:

Tweezer -> Sparks -> Makisupa Policeman -> Tweezer -> Sweet Emotion Jam -> Walk Away -> Cannonball Jam -> Purple Rain > Hold Your Head Up -> Tweezer -> Tweezer Reprise

I would personally have to give it a true. It's basically a full second set of one continuous jam, about an hour long, and it never has any meandering or boring sections like a lot of jams this long have. It's got funk, blues, reggae, jazz, classical, The Who, Prince, Joe Walsh. It's got it all. Hell it's my favorite intro into in a Tweezer ever, by far (listen to 9:58-10:07...gets me every time how badass it is)

I mean I'm sure I could name about 10 other things that could maybe be the best thing the boys have done, but I'm just not sure it stacks up with the Bomb Factory Tweezer.

Thoughts?

12-6-97

But its completely subjective to everyones tastes. I never enjoyed phish's jamming style in 94, i much prefer the funk type ii stuff going on in 97.

One of my favorite "Phish Moments" is Farm Aid when they were rocking out with Neil Young. Neil isn't the best guy to get up their and jam with, but they took down by the river to some really dark places and the idea of a legend like Neil Young jamming with phish always made me laugh.

Really? I can dig that I guess

I'll take crazy, intricate, change up the jam completely every 2-3 minutes, 30-45 minute long craziness 94-95 stuff over 97 funk. But just barely.

They were all just so on point and played off of each other so well in 94-95

I disagree, i find that 94/95 is all about trey just going off, while in 97-99/00, the jams were more group orientated and it was less about trey getting off on stage and more about the band going places.

This. As much as I enjoy Trey shredding.

I totally disagree about the 94/95 stuff being just about Trey

All those 45 minute Tweezers and Bowies and Diseases are all about full band interplay

I mean Trey tears up some stuff in those years, because he's at the peak of his powers, but if anything I would say those years are the most about the whole band playing together, probably of the band's whole career

If this is turning into a favorites fap thread, I'll go to old faithful, my personal favorite: 7.6.98 Ghost, specifically11:45-13:45.

Dat snare at 12:00

Which seamlessly transitions into a subdued, but extremely tight Cities (highlight being Mike's bass solo outro). Not to mention Mike totally owning the transition from AC/DC Bag into Ghost. Epic one-two-three punch IMO.

No way.

Mike came into his own in '97 and really laid it down '98-'00.

1st time i saw phish was in new haven in 95 and i wasnt into it at all because it was trey going off and the rest of the guys laying back. That all changed in 97 and my opinion of the band changed as well.

So Mike being higher up in the mix and being allowed to lead some jams = more full band interplay?

If anything those years were more about groove oriented stuff with people just noodling around over those grooves, and way less about playing off each other.

I mean listen to like Halloween 95 YEM or like 11/26/94 Bowie and tell me they were ever switching up on a dime mid-jam like that in 97

And Mike was a beast way before 97. On some some of those crazy 92-93 Weekapaugs Mike is a fricking monster

One of my favorite jams of all time, and I associate it with Trey hosing. Also the crowd reaction when the tramps are brought out is epic.

Honestly I just prefer it when Mike is in the mix or leading the jam. I just love the funky base with everyone adding stuff around it. It's probably my favorite part about Phish. Cavern and Mike's song 4/5/98, Tube 12/29/97 are three of my favorites of that style.
