67-31 vote to break his filibuster and raise the debt ceiling.

12 worthless benedict GOP hacks voted with the dems to break the filibuster:

Barrasso
Collins
Corker
Cornyn - Up for Primary
Flake
Johanns(retiring)
Hatch
Kirk
McCain
McConnell - Up for Primary
Murkowski
Thune

I live in Texas and have been working hard to make sure John Cornyn is defeated in the GOP primary next month. Time and time again he works behind the scenes to defeat conservatives. Hopefully McConnell gets sent packing too.

Republican strategists truly believe they have Obama/Dems on the ropes with Obamacare. It's the fourth quarter, last drive...and they are goin with the Nickel defense. And we all know how that turns out, about 70% of the time.

Will be interesting to see if Mcconnel and Cornyn go down in the Primary. Can't hurt, for sure.

On the ropes how?

So you agree to a 13 month hike of the debt ceiling bc you hope you are going to take the Senate in the Fall, yet even if you do, you still don't have the 2/3 needed to override a Presidential veto....

There is stuff they can pass in the Senate that will make Obama look damn bad if he uses that veto, L. And put the Senate Dems on the spot if they don't vote for it. Keystone Pipeline comes to mind.

Congressional investigations...Committee Chairmanships...there is a ton of hurt that can be dumped in Obama's lap if the Senate goes R.

Of course, it is depressin, and you are right to be cynical, I.e., rational and realistic. I don't think Jesus Christ can fix what ails this populous; not with their current mindset. Our Politics is merely a reflection of the collective delusion.

Inside the Very Awkward End to the Debt-Ceiling Wars - Boehner made his announcement, and no one clapped

Boehner is retiring.

quote:

The Hill recently surveyed dozens of Republicans in the House and the consensus was that the only lawmaker who could defeat Cantor is Ryan.
The wonky Budget Committee chairman, however, said Thursday that he does not want to be Speaker. Ryan is expected to lead the Ways and Means next year, with few expecting the 2012 vice presidential nominee to launch a White House bid.

Cantor has a better shot at the top House spot for a number of reasons, according to political science professor Jack Pitney.

They include: "Having been a member of the leadership for several years now, establishing national name identification, being able to raise money, showing that he can excel at both the inside game and the outside game, according to Pitney, who teaches at Claremont McKenna College.

Cantor has already raised more than $5 million for the 2013-2014 cycle, and has more than $2 million cash on hand between his personal campaign fund and his leadership PAC called Every Republican is Crucial (ERIC), according to the federal election money tracking website Opensecrets.org.

Cantor has had a seat at the GOP leadership table since then-House Majority Whip Roy Blunt (R-Mo.) selected him to be chief deputy whip in 2002. That has helped him foster relationships with many in the GOP conference.

A source close to Cantor said the Richmond-area lawmaker is a “patient man,” and has built a strong team that could take the reins if and when the job of Speaker is open.

Other Republicans who have been mentioned as a potential Boehner successors include Reps. Jeb Hensarling (Texas), Tom Price (Ga.) and Tom Cole (Okla.)

I remember an article a while back from a reputable source citing a study that rated him as the most conservative senator in congress. I laughed my arse off at it and I'm still laughing right now.

Boy, Boehner looks like he's 100 years old. He could play the Cowardly Lion in The Wizard of Oz without any makeup.

Come to think of it, he's already playing that role in real life.

Don't forget the nuclear option. And I think the GOP should modify that to include SCOTUS nominees.

And if Obama should try to do something before the '14 election, Bohener should adjourn the House, which means if SCOTUS slaps down Obama's faux recess appointments, then he can't try to stack boards or judgeships.

He was when he was in the house. His voting record drastically changed when he went to the Senate.
