quote:

"Let me tell you, Jaeson can play right now," said Josh the other day, his voice rising.

"I don't know about that. I'm kinda old now," said Jaeson.

"No, no," said Josh, now leaning forward in his chair. "He has range and quickness. He could play for the Pelicans right now. Right now. They have a spot for Austin Rivers. C'mon."

Rivers is in his second season with the Pelicans and, like most young players, his transition from college to the NBA hasn't come without a burp. But you can't help but wonder if the flash of resentment from Josh was partly due to the advantage Rivers had over the Maravich boys. Like Josh and Jaeson, Austin's father enjoyed a fruitful NBA playing career and left his own mark, although much less significant than Pistol Pete's. Unlike Pete, Doc Rivers spent many hours with his son and served as a sounding board and was around precisely when he needed to be. You see, Doc Rivers lived and Pete Maravich didn't.

...pretty solid read about the Maravich family.

AR would cross his coat tail riding arse up. He would miss the layup, but still.

I laughed.

Thanks for the link. Was a very fascinating piece and ironically made me feel better about the Pelicans situation reading about the LSU fans and their relationship with Coach Brady.

I'm sure that's all it was, it's not like there's guys in the NBA who grew up without a father. Who wrote this shite?

They should have talked more about free throws...

Is he still on his consecutive FT streak? Up to 17 last I remember.

I say again...

Who?

I remember that kid playing HS ball, he was NOTHING compared to his Dad. So until he ups his talent level, he should sit back down.

It's not talking about growing up without a father...it's talking about not growing up with an NBA legend father...much smaller pool we're talking about here.

It's not absurd to think that spending a lot of time with a top 50 basketball player of all time could have maybe had some impact on his basketball path.

i thought it was an interesting article...the guy complimented his brother and said what many fans do -- that Austin Rivers sucks...and so far, he really has.

...it sucks that Pete died.

ETA:...and i'm not saying that Rivers won't be good or that the Maravich son was worth anything on the basketball court, because I don't know, honestly....just commenting on the article

Austin is Pete Maravich compared to both of them. Also Jaeson is like 35 years old. It's just a stupid thing to say.

Jaeson was really good, I witness him play first hand. The pressure for him to be his dad was too much. People hounded him in the 7th grade. You have to realize he didn't touch a basketball for 2 1/2 years It would have been hard for anyone to handle the pressure everybody put on him.
