Sure it has been brought up before, but why in the hell was agreed upon? It makes no sense at all. I am not talking about the move from UNO to Metairie. I am at a loss as to why we would open home on a Friday night, agree to play in away on a Saturday and then return home for a Sunday game.

This chit reminds me of what we have started doing with moving home football games (best possible home games I might add) to some other location.

Although the baseball scheduling makes less sense than what has been done to the football schedule.

Since you haven't cared to read any previous threads on it and the boxtards would rip you over it, I'll explain. Maestri field was be rededicated/christened Coach M agreed to play there to honor his coach. UNO saw how many tickets they were selling for the game and decided to move it.

I understand the desire to help open the new UNO baseball stadium, but why not do it on the Friday or Sunday? I am ok with the game being scheduled, what I cannot understand is why place it in the middle of a weekend?

Trying to make too many people happy.

LSU fans still get opening night at the box.

The first game at the new Maestri field would be against LSU with PM coaching.

UNO gets a good crowd because it's a Saturday. Jump start program.

Then all of that gets fricked. UNO waits until it's too late to let LSU know the field won't "be ready" so they can't reschedule or move the game back to the box. PM is pissed.

Don't remember the reasoning. I think either bbap or Russian gave that info.

Rather play at Zephyr than the box anyway. Much better facility to watch a ball game

really.. i mean they're having games fri and sun. seems pretty simple to just have the saturday game at the box. It's not like uno is traveling from BFE !

Has it ever occurred to you that LSU fans live outside of BR?

I'm sure UNO would like to keep the revenue from the game. I mean, I'm no expert but I'm sure that's the biggest reason it's staying in NO. If Maineri has a problem with that then he's just being a dick

His problem isn't with them making money. That was part of his reasoning. UNO is rebuilding and he wanted to help jumpstart the program. But his main reason for taking away a home game on opening weekend was to open the new field named after his old coach. He played at UNO in college. Moving it to Zephyr completely takes away the main purpose of the game. And UNO waited as long as they could to tell LSU about the need for the change and after they had already secured Zephyr field so they could triple their take. It's much bigger and they'll make much more off the gate. I'm not sure who gets concessions. It was a dick move on their part.

He never should have given away a home game on opening weekend. He's LSU's head coach, not UNO's. No one cares about Maestri field. This is opening weekend.

You want to honor your coach, go play a random tuesday there.

Well, since the only time I have ever lived in BR was my four years of undergrad, no it has never occurred to me that some LSU fans live outside of Baton Rouge. Dumb chit, read my posts in this thread.

I don't have a problem playing the game in New Orleans, Metarie, UNO or at Delgado. My original question is why play an away game in the middle of a weekend series?

To your point of LSU fans living outside of Baton Rouge. I am one of those fans. I drive into Baton Rouge (3 hour drive) for the games. So, I drive in on a Friday afternoon, watch the game and then have to drive to New Orleans to see a second game and then drive all the way back to Baton Rouge to catch a third game before driving 3 more hours to get home. It makes no sense.

Again, why not originally schedule the away game against UNO on the Friday or Sunday?

Probably because it's UNO's home game. Are we going to give them the gate from playing here?
