After starting to read up on the premiership I'm shocked that the big scottish teams haven't made a bid to the premiership.

Maybe I'm not thinking of it correctly, but isn't this protectionism keeping big teams from a super league in britain bad thing?

Scotland is about to break away altogether from Britain. It's a bit controversial.

Why? Scotland has mps that can vote on english politics when england cannot do so likewise in scotland. It is as if the scots have turned england into their colony in a way.

Or is my understanding of this flawed?

My understanding is limited and I'm in Amsterdam and properly inebriated , but yeh I think they have a symbiotic relationship with businesses and some infrastructure (train) and Scotland wants to go independent of all that and care of their own bidness.

TN Bhoy can probably offer a more detailed (or correct ) version.

I don't know much of present-day Scotland, but I do remember Scotland getting a heck of a deal in the Acts of Union from my Stuart England class

I didn't start this to be a troll thread.
I was just curious why there hadn't been a united super premiership, as It could really be good for the sport.

Heck there are 3 mls teams in Canada, it's not such a big deal, is it?

MLS is also a franchise organization that decided it would be beneficial to them to have Canadian clubs. You can't really compare the two examples IMO.

A)Without Celtic and Rangers Scottish football would be dead, the average ground is below 6k for the SPL alone. They hold all the leverage.
B) Why give up guarenteed European football?

MagicCityBlazer, I know it's not a troll thread. It's a great question, and one that has been debated over the years. Like you've said, it makes financial sense on a lot of levels. However, it would cause a break in tradition, and there is a long political and social history to contend with. In Britain, there often have been strong opinions on the issue. I imagine there might be some people on the board with opinions as well.
