true detective theories

Ok so I watched it last night…
The scene in Beaumont was awesome…. I don’t know if you noticed or not, but once they got to the stash house til they got in Marty’s car was all one take, it was a continuous scene which made it even better.
but any way....
Is it me or do you get the feeling that the present day Rust is holding something back.
I have a feeling that he never stopped being a cop, I get the feeling he loves the job too much…..
So bear with my theory…..
Rust and Marty go to Reggie’s place (who’s not the killer by the way no way) learn more about the cult sacrificing women and children in the woods. They make a suspect for the Dora Lang case but Rust sees something greater, something vastly more sinister. Yet Marty wants to make an arrest and doesn’t see down the rabbit hole like rust can. Marty pushes to make the arrest on the suspect and they make a case against him, but deep down Rust knows that this is the wrong guy or just not the head guy.
Marty and rust have there “falling out” ( weather over the case or Maggie) and rust continues working the cult angle. Rust decides to go deep undercover ( remember the LSP didn’t know that he was deep undercover for 4 years said those records were sealed could be same thing here) in the cult and “drops off the grid” just like he did in Texas ( he apparently is very good at doing undercover work). A new victim is found and rust and marty are brought in for questioning (mainly rust).
I know it's not completed but I could the show going down a road similar to this
anyone eles want to join in please do

there is a thread for this. You are not special

Could work. I am starting to think the falling out was possibly staged. Seems like Marty still has Rust's back from the previews.

Colonel Mustard with the revolver in the ballroom
Nah, I really don't have any theories. I'm not really try to come up with a theory with this one like I do with most cop movies/shows. I'm just enjoying the ride with this one. BUT if I did have a theory, it'd look similar to yours.

I am curious about Marty's daughter and those drawings, plus someone pointed out that she drew that symbol and that it's hanging on their wall.

well I apologize then I searched but didn't see a thread like this. I saw all episode discussions, but I may have missed it, please point me in the right direction then.

The Pastor guy from Episode 1 ("there's a war going on" is his quote to Rusty) is using Ledoux for his drugs. Ledoux is just a pawn. The victims view Ledoux as a demon bc they are high on drugs, as you can see on the police sketches.
The church captures lost souls via flyers and tents, sends them to Reggie to be drugged, and later the killer murders them publicly to showcase their evil ways to the world.

The guy on the lawn mower is the key to everything.
Actually, I have no idea. I just really enjoy watching the show.

I rewatched E1 last night and now I'm having doubts that the dinner at Marty's ever happened. BUT WHAT DOES IT MEAN! Why is Brother Mouzone so interested in that detail? Even Marty has to ask this.
I think there's much more going on in E1 after a closer inspection

Rust was about to ask him a few more questions, before being cut off.

One thing I cannot get out of my mind is the Dora Lange crime scene. It was covered with those Devil Catchers or Devil Traps. I've read that those are to keep demons away. If the ultimate person/group responsible for her murder are devil worshippers...like Charlie Lange divulged to MM&WH in E4....why would they use an object that is used to keep the Devil away? Don't they want to attract the Devil? To worship? Makes me wonder that the murderer is in fact not of these Devil worshippers, but in fact a cult of Christians that would have a use for these Devil Traps. Tuttle Ministries? Or a splintered group off of Tuttle Ministries. Tuttle even said there is a war going on to MM&WH. A cult war possibly.

Marty never had on a sweater that night. When he got home that evening (after working late) his kids were already asleep. The next morning Michelle M asked why he didn't come to bed last night (he was still wearing the shirt he had on from the day before). Michelle M mentioned that she hadn't really seen him in the last few days. She would not have said that if they had all had dinner the night before.
Why would Rust and Marty need lie about the dinner at Marty's house? I think Bro Mouzone knows they are lying.

We had the black preacher describe these. He might not have given a reliable explanation.
I think a lot of people that were interviewed in E1 were deceptive and may have known much more than they were letting on

There is no killer.
Lange was a cadaver staged as a homicide victim.
Rust is IA undercover as Marty's partner. Rust is investigating Marty. Marty is corrupt as all get out.

So the events from ACT 1 could be scattered? It's definitely a plausible.

Rust showed up drunk the first night they were supposed to have dinner. He went home and they had dinner another night. You knew that right? I'll have to go rewatch tho

You have got to think both preachers play a larger role in this whole story. Those are 2 good actors for bit parts in one episode only.....
I hope so, at least. I like them.

Nope, they had the dinner with him drunk. Remember Marty even tried to have another cop buddy excuse Rust from dinner for work, but Rust refused on the phone.
