How do you look up inflation numbers?

I received x amount of raise for this past year and want to compare it to the rate of inflation.

Government puts out inflation numbers every year. Typically it is in the 1-2% the past few years I believe

My girlfriends grandmother gave her a fur coat for a Mardi Gras ball we went to Friday night.
Grandma said she bought the coat in '86 for $2,600.. Wanted to see what that would be today, almost $6,000.

There's no perfect way, but the closest thing to what really matters for you is PCE (Personal Consumption Expenditures). That's the measure the Fed monitors the closest.

Wikibtc says whatever inflation rate you find multiply it by 5.
