Sounds about right. Just an awful game to watch in every imaginable way.

Our hands were tied defensively for a couple of reasons. UGA was hitting their outside shots, and the outrageous foul calls (both ways FWIW).

My gripe with our defense came primarily from our complete inability to defend ball screens. No trapping, horrible switching, no rotation. Fundamental stuff that we looked lost on.

5 the whole game is the opposite of " hitting their outside shots".

5-9 is "hitting their outside shots." They realized they didn't have to depend on the 3 because of JOB's foul trouble and pounded the shite out of the ball inside. Back to the "our hands were tied" scenario I described.

Again my issues aren't with running zone when we should run a man, it's the fundamental defensive ineptitude.

on top of that. the last 3 threes they made, we came down and answered with a 3, if i remember correctly. I know we did for two of them at least. so their 3's did nothing to us.

Well everytime the drove the ball inside the three point line a foul was called on the defender before a jump shot could be attempted. Even their coach's technical got wiped out with a foul "prior to the tech".

Stringer was an automatic answer for their 3's last night. Possibly the only positive from last night

Point remains that they were hitting the threes they were taking. They didn't shoot many because they didnt have to (JOB foul trouble). We could switch to a zone with little to no guarantee of slowing their bigs without JOB and leave the three for them, or we could stay in man and get abused down low.

The most important issue in the entire game was JOB's foul trouble. Without that, we're not talking about any of the other stuff. We go as he goes and that's been the case all year.

Were we not getting abused while we were in a zone at the beginning of the game?

Yes. Oddly enough, they were able to (or we allowed them to) do the very thing a zone should prevent: score in the paint.

The hope here is that JJ has some quality film sessions this week and we make adjustments that prevent other teams from exposing our zone.

Let's face it, if freaking UGA abuses our man d (even without JOB) we really can't expect to rely on it if we have hopes of making a run at anything.

Dang, I hate bad defense.

nothing we did defensively worked. i liked that we tried to mix in some pressure early on but they handled it really well. we had a little run with the press in the 2nd half but they figured it out again and the fouls started piling up.

even without much contribution from o'bryant and coleman we were still in position to make a run until the lasy 4 or 5 minutes. if uga can't hit shite like a normal night we would have been right there.

people bitching about NOT being in a zone, people bitching about being in a zone. There are some games you literally have no chance of winning for various reasons...that was one of them. I'm sorry, but when the other team is allowed (yes ALLOWED because at least 10-15 calls were extreme extreme borderline and could easily not have been called because they weren't called on uga) to shoot 46 free throws compared to your 22, it's impossible. I don't understand what people wanted our players to do. They hedge a ball screen, #4 would duck his should into either Odo/JOB/Mickey and it's a foul. So then you HAVE to let the ball-handling around you and hope to get a block. Therefore we would trail the ball-handler and he would launch himself to any player within a 5 foot radius and get a call

If you literally think LSU's defense was at fault last night, get the frick out. Seriously, if they don't get an uncontested layup it was a foul...there was zero they could do.

Well that is the modern game for the most part. Players like to shoot threes and take it to the rim. Very few players know or practice the pull up 2 point jump shot. To be fair, the defenses are set up so that the three or the drive are usually the best way to attack.

Funny, that's the same thing that happened when we lost to them in football this year.
