32% after 62 reviews

Given the release delays and odd marketing, I can't say I'm surprised.

I had my doubts from the start. For some reason, this movie looked like a dud to me.

This movie looks like a case of a potentially real interesting topic looking completely boring on the big screen.

I really thought I saw a trailer and the movie was billed as a comedy. Now it is a serious movie.

No kidding. It looked like a serious topic handled in the Ocean's 11 kind of way.

Scruffy is inconsistent with his use of the third person in threads on other boards. PsychTiger has seen Scruffy use the third person on both this and the Poli Board. Perhaps Scruffy forgets from time to time which board he is on at the moment.

White Roach find Scruffy's posts to be entertaining. Scruffy reminds White Roach of Joe Horn with a higher IQ.

Good review here:
Light Spoilers

quote:

Problem is, Monuments Men focuses a whole lot on how wacky the band is and very little on the actual mission. It’s so heavy on winks and aw shucks moments that the story could be about anything.

quote:

Basically, Monuments Men is a movie that wants to be dramatic and full of heartfelt moments where we earnestly mourn men who died while trying to protect art, while the group of artists who actually made the movie just look like they’re playing costume party grabass the entire time. It is not a winning combination.

I saw a show last night (on Nat Geo, I think) about the Monuments Men story. It was basically a plug of the movie and had brief contributions from Clooney, Damon and Blanchett, but provided the background story to the movie. The movie may suck, but the IRL story looks very interesting.

As to the posters who've mentioned that they thought this movie was originally scripted as a comedy, I don't know how that possibly could have worked. Even with Bill Murray and John Goodman, I'm not sure how you make Nazi occupation and the systematic looting of Jewish families assets a funny story.

Well, at least if it really sucked the real guys are probably all dead so they don't have to see the insult.

This is disheartening because I love John Goodman and Bill Murray.
