Do you have to have DirecTV? Can you get it on just your iPad without DirecTV? How much? Etc.

Thanks.

No.
Yes.
Don't know but probably cheap on mobile only half way though the season. It's awesome if you love the NBA.

Sweet. Thanks guy. Going to the Pelicans game tonight got me interested again. Going to get league pass and cancel my cable tomorrow.

It's not that cheap...it's 110 for the rest of the year and 65 if you do the 5-team deal.

And also if you live in New Orleans, Pelicans games will be blacked out since they're on local TV

Even if I don't have cable?

And I think I can figure out a way to change location through my VPN.

Yeah. And yeah you could probably change your location somehow(ask someone smarter than me) but without any tweaking they'll be blacked out.

Edit...actually you may can get it on your phone only for 27. Idk the website is kind of confusing. So I guess you could stream your phone with an Apple TV but then you won't be able to use your phone at all during the games.

Well from the way I interpret it, you can do it for 26(21 if you're Sprint) and only watch it on your smartphone. Although unless you'd be able to project that to your TV(could probably be done with an Apple TV although I bet they don't let you do it without mirroring the screen). So you may be stuck just watching it on your tiny smartphone screen which would get old really quickly, especially if you need use your phone for anything during the games.

Or you can get the broadband package for 110/65. The 65 dollar option lets you pick 5 teams and you can watch all their games. 110 lets you watch whatever. I've heard of people doing the 5-team option with cable....since the local games and the Heat/Lakers/Thunder/etc have half their games on TV anyway. So people would choose 5 teams they're interested in that don't get as much exposure and you can pretty much watch anyone in combination with local cable or watch different teams play the five you've chosen. But without cable, you'd probably want to pick the Pelicans and the 4 other teams you'd really want to see the most.

That said...I don't know how to trick them into thinking you aren't in the NO market, but games would be blacked out if you are there, and I bet that would be pretty tough to trick if you are doing just the cheap mobile option. I think there was a jailbreak tweak to break this for the MLB app so maybe something exists. I don't know anything about android. With a laptop it would probably be easier but I still wouldn't know where to direct you.

Kind of rambled and am too lazy to proofread so hope it makes sense

Yes it does. If I can get it on my iPad, I can deal with the smaller screen. And I think my VPN provides coverage to mobile devices and iPads. If I can get NBA League Pass on a computer, that would be much better.

I'll look into it further tomorrow. I need to find something to watch now that NFL is finished.

ETA: Thanks for doing the research for my lazy arse.

Well the 110 is for pretty much everything. Laptop, phone, tablet, and TV channels if you're provider has it. I'll say it's been awesome the couple of free weeks they've given us(especially since I'm out of the ATL market now), but not enough for me to pay that much money. I do it for the Braves and don't blink twice, but basketball isn't as entertaining for me.

If you could figure out to change your location, the 65 dollar 5 team deal could be worth it and that covers laptop/tablet. If you picked the Pels and 4 other teams in playoff contention you'd probably be pretty entertained.

Without the additional cable expense, and if I can watch on my laptop, I can handle the $110.

Very much appreciated.

No problem...I would just make sure you have the whole location thing figured out before you drop the money

If I can watch on a laptop, IP location is no issue.

Check out EarthVPN if you ever feel the need to be truly anonymous on the internet.

Looks pretty legit. I've heard of other proxies slowing down the feed but I'm sure something you pay for would be better.

Also another thing that you might want to look into...I know for baseball the nationally televised games on ESPN Sunday Night are blacked out. I don't know what the NBA's policy for national games on ESPN/ABC/TNT is. Not that I can remember seeing the Pelicans on any primetime game this year, but those may be blacked out and if you want to watch the big Heat/Thunder game or something it wouldn't surprise me if that wasn't covered.

Only buy it if you:

1) Root for a team in another market

or

2) Are a true NBA junkie

I bought it once and the novelty wore off after a few weeks. You realize pretty quickly that almost all the good matchups are carried on national tv anyway and the random Cavs-Warriors or Heat-Bobcats style games that dominate the League Pass schedule turn into a rout early or both teams just sleepwalk the whole game.
