I think Hickey has finally realized he doesn't need to be the man anymore but rather create opportunities for our other players.

The last 2 games he has 12 assists to 1 turnover. That's SPECTACULAR numbers for a PG. He's never been a high percentage shooter and this is why he needs numbers like this. JOB III (53.2%), Mickey (56.3%), Martin (45.1%), Coleman (42.8%), Stringer (44.4%), etc...are all much better offensively than Hickey (36.0%) is and the shooting numbers reflect that.

Not to mention, Hickey still > 2 steals a game and i nthe last 2 games is 7/9 from the FT line and 63.6% on the season (up massively from last year's 44.4%).

Hickey has transformed into the player he really needs to be for this team to be dangerous come March.

Agreed. Obviously it's just 2 games, but this team is starting to look like they're finding their groove. Worried about several road games will, but they could be scary

Mickey and O'Bryant have gotten the press these last two games, but Hickey's play has been every bit as important. IMO he was the biggest reason for the win against UK. He completely controlled the tempo in that game. Pushed it when it was there. Slowed it down when it wasn't. And hit big shots when the offense broke down.

Didn't get to see yesterday's game at all, so I don't know if he finally did it.

But when teams go to zone, he has to be able to penetrate against it, finding creases in the zone and set up his teammates - understanding it's hard for him to see when he gets into the middle of the zone, but that's why you have big JOB to drop it down to and 6'5 Shavon or 6'9 Martin to kick it out to when the defense collapses.

That's my complaint.

tbird. Great post. He has less pressure on him for sure. That equals a clear head to do the right thing and make better decisions.

his decision making has been great. he may still let it fly too soon into the shot clock but sometimes that falls within the framework of the pace we are playing. he is making some great passes and decisions with the ball.

to be fair, before in his career he had to try to score. He didn't have Mickey and Martin and Coleman last year was playing down low and was often overmatched

I agree with the OP, but Hickey must be able to get buckets or get easy shots for others during scoring droughts.

I too think this is key thunderbird.

I think he had a couple of games last year where he went off scoring and it maybe it gave him a bit too inflated sense of what he does best for the team.

IMHO if he's shooting more than 8-10 times a game that's probably not good for us.

He's kind of reverting back to his role of his freshman year when he was a distributor first and the hole flow of the offense has improved and fast break execution has improved as well as he's giving it up more than trying to take it all the way so much.

I also think he's capable of driving, drawing and dishing much more than he hss earlier in the year and late last year. And I think we are seeing some of that.

I don't know why, but I thought he was shooting higher than 33% from 3-point land. It does seem like he's knocking down open shots though.

He was early, but as the old baseball folks would say he eventually played to his baseball card...his average.

He's best as a distributor. It's taken him awhile to accept that I think, but it seems finally he has and what's more important, I think he finally seems at peace with it.

And we're a better team for it. Now let's take it on the road, because at Bama HIckey was not yet there. If he stays the course at Georgia, the chances of winning go up.

Until recently he had to shoot 12-15 tomes a game. JOB and Martin have been the diff in this stretch .

This 10X

JOB3 has played like the 1st round pick he could be. With Martin starting to get comfortable and play up to his potential and athleticism, LSU could be scary come tourney time for a bunch of reasons. The only thing that bothers me is post bench depth.

Athletically, with Coleman starting, we can match up with almost anyone in the country. Love Stringer coming off the bench, hope Quarterman and Morgan can continue to play big minutes as well off the bench.

LSU zone is scary long and hard to go up against, and like Syracuse when 95% of college teams only play man, it can be a struggle for teams to go up against.

I think he felt like he did and thus the other guys weren't getting the ball in the best position. Weren't getting the ball in rhymn, cause there was no rhythmn. We were standing around taking jump shots.

He just seems to be running the offense with much more purpose now.

No doubt JOB3 and Martin have played much more consistently of late, but I don't think it's any coincidence that Hickey is looking more to distribute and get the offense and fast breaks running more smoothly. He wasn't so much earlier this year.

The entire team had been hustling lately IMO. No more lazy cuts, standing around. Our guys are getting aggressive with this new lineup and hickey is the perfect guy to lead us IMO.

No question. Not sure why it took so long, but past is past. Let's just hope it keeps up on road cause after looking like we had licked that stuff at home vs. Vandy and Mizziou, it reared it's ugly head again the first half against Bama and was as bad as ever.

Let's get out the gate strong and whip dem dawgs.

He's always been good at moving the ball around, however he isn't taking stupid shots anymore which has been the biggest change to his game to me. He currently has an ast:to ratio better than any SEC player has over the past 12 years.
