Exede satellite Internet reviews

I live out in the sticks in SW Miss. We currently have CSpire MiFi and its ok but can be dial up slow. AT&T doesn't offer DSL in our area and doesn't sound like they plan on it. I heard about the Exede Internet being pretty fast and supposedly better than Hughes net. Anybody have any real world experience with the Exede through DirectTv? We mainly use it for surfing the web, some streaming but not much and work from home a little .TIA

I can't speak to Exede specifically, but in general Satellite sucks because of physics. Basically the distance required bouncing your signal to space, down to the web site you want to go to and back adds a lot of overhead. If all you're doing is streaming a movie then it's probably not too bad, but I can speak from personal experience that a standard web page with lots of different images, like a thread on TD, feels like you're using dialup. If it's your only option it's better than dialup, but if you're doing it to save money vs. cable, it's a bad place to pinch pennies.

biggest issue with excede, and all sat internet providers, is the ping. however if you are just using it for emails and watching youtube you wont have that much of a problem.
expect to let the videos load for a while at times tho.

We don't have cable where we live. The only options are satellite or the mifi we have now. The wife works from home and the mifi is very slow when she tries to download files.

I always thought satellite companies just sublet ted ISP's from companies like Bel South At&T and such.
Never thought it was real satellite internet.

We called them earlier and the made sure we knew there was going to be another dish in the yard.

I have it because it's my only option. Get speeds up to 12 mbps, but I pay $80 a month and only have a 15GB cap.
Weather can affect it, but lately, I've been hitting my cap early in the month. When that happens, you can either buy more space (At $10 per GB) or you're slowed to 512 kbps until the end of the month. THAT SUCKS

We have Exede at our cabin and have been very pleased. It is much better than Mifi. We use it mostly for web browsing and email, not for streaming videos or games. I would suggest not using Hughesnet, their customer service is horrible.

Also check if Exede has daily/weekly/monthly caps, after which they either pop you for more $ or drop your connection down to a very low bitrate.
Not data rate caps, but cumulative data amount. Several HD movies might chew up your bit-bucket pretty fast.

I had Dish for years and finally had enough, I switched to Hughes. There is a BIG difference in speed! I now have no problems opening any sites and videos are non stop.

We dont really watch movies via the internet.I get on here and play on youtube a little. We have 6gb shared now with CSpire thats both of our phones and 2 laptops. We havent busted it yet or even got within 20%.The Exede plan was 10gb so Im thinking that will be plenty.I am more concerned about speed and reliabilty.

Speed and reliability has been fine for us. But weather can be an issue. Also, I believe they unlimited usage from 10pm to 5am.
