I reread what I wrote. I don't see what is confusing.

He was cleared to play, but it happened so late they just decided to red shirt him this year.

It didn't really make much news. I remember a few tweets and a small thread on here. Easy to miss.

then why wouldn't he at least be in the bench with the team?

I don't know.

The extent of my knowlege of the situation is that I remember reading sometime last year that he was deemed eligible but would be redshirting this season.

Don't think this is accurate. He's not even practicing with the team.

Even if they planned to redshirt him I'd still like to know what the hell is taking so long to rule on him. If he can't practice with the team that is significant.

Bridgewater told me last night that he is eligible for next season and that he is not practicing with the team.

I didn't ask him anything further than that. As I said in an earlier thread, he was there to watch the game and not talk to a random fan.

I didn't know that.

It's entirely possible I either read bad info, or drank away the brain cells that were supposed to remember what I read properly.

Gotcha. But still makes me wonder why he isn't eligible now.

The Florida kid is eligible and he took gifts. So what did Bridgewater do that is worse?

Bridgewater attends every home game and usually sits in the lowers behind the LSU bench - just finds an open spot with the same buddy of his every game.

Just so happened last night they finally sat next to me to where I can ask him something without having to go completely out of my way to look like some damn stalker or weirdo.

As far as I can tell, this is the last public comment Jones made about him. Doesn't seem to be any new news.

quote:

Jones also updated the status of freshman forward Brian Bridgewater, who has yet to play for the Tigers because of an NCAA Clearinghouse issue.

According to Jones, Bridgewater is still ineligible to participate with the team because the NCAA had yet to approve a class he took "at another school,” presumably Episcopal High School, where Bridgewater attended before transferring to Scotlandville High School for his senior year. "He did everything he was supposed to do,” Jones said. "Unfortunately, other people have to make rulings.”

Jones seemed to indicate the NCAA could make Bridgewater, who is not practicing or working out with the team, eligible at some point during the season, but added that Bridgewater would be available next year, hinting at a redshirt – or possibly a gray shirt – for the 2013-14 year.

Until then, Bridgewater remains enrolled in and on scholarship at LSU, and is allowed to make use of LSU’s academic facilities for athletes.
