If you publically proposed in a plain-spoken and definitive manner, that it is more virtuous to work and be self-reliant than to be idle and reliant on a handout, you would be roundly criticized by all the usual suspects.

A generation ago it was assumed. Now you would be defamed if you made such a claim. It's the Death of Reason and The Fruition of Liberalism. They go hand in hand. They are inexorably linked.

I got passed over for a promotion last month at work becuase I stood up to a manager in a different department who was a bully in October, despite the fact that I am the most productive member out of the 78 employees in my department and do 3 days worth of work for a normal employee in 1 day, and always do things the right way.

Instead they promoted people who are habitually late, slack off, cheat our system, take 30 minute breaks, and more.

Moral of the story: Don't mess with people above you in the corporate world

I should start a political movement

I had something similar. I was looked over because I stood for what was right for the client I was working. I looked for a job elsewhere and was offered (didn't really want to leave). I went to my employer and told them about what I was doing. They matched the money I wanted (10,000) so I stayed. Now I don't want the promotion. Less responsibility with the money I feel is fair.

What happened with me is that a manager in a different department accused me multiple times of turning off the lights in the bathroom(when this happens it goes pitch black)

But the way he accused me was bully-like, he would come over to my cubicle and berate me and treat me like shite, even though I wasn't the one turning off the lights

He did this 3 times and the 3rd time I told him "I didn't turn off the fricking lights. I am getting tired of your shite because its disrespectful"

This got me in the doghouse and I am still in the same position. When I learned I wasn't getting promoted I told them I am quitting if they don't because of how hard I work compare to everyone else, but they didn't bite... so my strategy backfired and I am still here. Glad your strategy ended up working out though

I'm being completely serious here. I honestly don't think anyone of any importance or credibility would criticize someone for advocating a strong work ethic. I think one might be criticized if they suggested that all poor people are poor because they're lazy, but that's a different issue.

I had the upper hand. I was willing to leave and would have.

Give me freedom.

Insubordination and a loose cannon. And you make the high ups look bad..."pull the cloak off their sin".

Moral of the story: People aren't fair. I've had a ton or original art work...just 'disappear'. Lost a couple of big ones this week. But partly my fault...I suck at keeping paper.

Stay on the straight and narrow, GN. It'll pay off big in the long run. Clear conscience is pure gold!

I know someone who got demoted because they left a message on the answering machine of a different department's manager complaining about how 4 of his employees hung up on him when trying to contact that department on the phone.

One thing I have learned in corporate America is how managers and such HATE when someone below them calls them out on not doing their job right and exposing their wrongdoings. Even if its done in a nice and civil, constructive criticism way. They don't like people telling the truth, the truth being "Hey, you are not doing what you are supposed to be doing". It's called pride and corproate America is full of it
