includes fill-in-the-blank questions on her tests such as “ISN’T IT AMAZING WHAT THE _____________ HAS MADE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!”

The ACLU claims that the credited answer for the question is the word “LORD.” When the Buddhist student didn’t input that answer, Roark allegedly made fun of him in front of the entire class.

quote:

In addition, the suit asserts, Roark told students that the Bible is completely factual, that God created the earth about 6,000 years ago and that evolution is not possible.

quote:

Beyond Roark’s classroom, the ACLU lawsuit accuses the school of regularly having Christian prayer in school and featuring all manner of Christian representations including a portrait of Jesus Christ and Bible verses that school on an electric marquee at the school’s main entrance.

quote:

The suit claims that the boy’s parents noted their objections to these overt Christian messages. Sabine Parish superintendent Sara Ebarb allegedly responded by suggesting that the kid either “change” his religious beliefs or enroll in a school some 25 miles down the road where “there are more Asians,”

Geaux Louisiana. Keeping it real. A state that makes everyone proud.

The good news is that you guys are higher ranked than Mississippi in education.

The bad news is that Louisiana is only ranked above Mississippi.

At least Louisiana has their shite together in terms of fiscal matters. The great states of NJ, CA, NY, IL and CT are about to go bankrupt or get a bailout.

Sorry, but do you realize how stupid this sounds?

So, you see no problem with the Jesus speak in a public school?

so you have a problem with creationism and Christian views being taught in public schools but decide to use one school in Louisiana as an example instead of the Texas School Board textbook changes?

nice flame...

Go Texas. Keeping it real. A state that makes everyone proud.

I every time I see this kind of response.
It is your job as a parent to instill your belief in God in YOUR kids. It's not the states job.
Everyone I know bitches about how they think the gov. can't do this right and needs to get out of their lives and I agree. So I don't want a stupid public school trying to teach my kids religion.

well this goes beyond that

this example is one of a legitimately genuine non-christian, but religious, student who is pretty much having ALL the bad shite happen that those who don't want religion in public schools warn about. if christians could be better behaved, i could defend them

this story shows that christians cannot stop their culture of discrimination...which is fine in their private lives, but keep it out of public services

You can't teach your kid about God at home or at church? Are you that bad of a parent because you have to depend on school to raise them for you?

yes...Christians are horrible people.

love it when a few represent all

but my point was that the OP specifically made this thread to flame Louisiana when there are much better examples out there

well this goes beyond that
IF it is accurate.
quote:

the district issued the following statement: “The Sabine Parish School Board has only recently been made aware of the lawsuit filed by the ACLU. A lawsuit only represents one side’s allegations, and the board is disappointed that the ACLU chose to file suit without even contacting it regarding the facts. The school system recognizes the rights of all students to exercise the religion of their choice and will defend this lawsuit vigorously.”
Sounds like the ACLU was more interested in suit than solution.
It is possible the school is 100% in the wrong, and it willingly allowed obviously stupid teachers to do obviously stupid things, and to do them in a bigoted way. Certainly would be the case if the ACLU's account is correct.
Facts seem to suffer in this instance though.

E.g.,

quote:

science teacher Rita Roark . . . .

. . . . . While studying other religions, she also has told students that Buddhism is “stupid,” the lawsuit said.
Very odd allegation IMO.

Nothing is more stupid than saying open discrimination on the basis of religion should be allowed, if not enabled, in our public schools because (the Christian) God should be in our children's lives, as if God can't be taught by parents in their own time to their own kids.

You mean you've not seen science teachers teaching comparative religion studies in science class as the suit alleges?

No?

Neither have I.

and again, like i've said in this thread a few times...this is the case of a religious student who happens to be non-christian

usually these cases are non-genuine kids who are trying to pick a fight. this case isn't
