Here's the cliff notes for you: An exotic animal sanctuary outside of Las Vegas is ran by Jay and Valerie Holt who are both LSU Vet School grads. They take in a lot of exotic animals that people take as pets and abandon or give up. The sanctuary has been open since 2009 with no problems. On January 10th the county decided to walk in and say their bathroom wasn't ADA compliant and the sanctuary would need to shut down. To get in to compliance they estimate costs between $250k-500k. Without the sanctuary being open there is no revenue. If you have never been out there it is very worth a small donation. Hopefully this will help out.

This isn't a home renovation. Back in the 90's we looked at making my family's restaurant in Slidell ADA complaint. We didn't have to because we were grandfathered in but my grandfather suffered from Parkinson's and we had some motivation. For two bathrooms about the size of the one in the video we were looking at around $150k with several estimates. You just don't install a handrail and pat yourself on the back. A lot has to do with clearance for a wheelchair. So that means we would have to take out walls and expand. Guess what's on the other side? Kitchen equipment. Now you are rerouting more water and gas lines. Reading on the donations page they mention walkways and a $100k septic system. So the issue is more than just a bathroom. I do think the $500k sounds a bit high but we don't have all the facts it seems. On top of all this, Vegas prices and Louisiana prices aren't the same.

My advice to you and them is to never vote the Progressive/Democratic ticket again in any election.
