UK Man wants guns legalized

quote:
The Ukip leader has said it is party policy for hand guns to be legalised and licensed in the UK despite being banned in the UK for the last 18 years.
Mr Farage said the current ban on the guns, which were made illegal following the school shooting at Dunblane in 1996, was “ludicrous.”
Speaking on LBC Radio Mr Farage said that it was Ukip policy to create a “proper licensing policy” and that people who kept hand guns responsibility locked up and had were willing to get an official license should “absolutely” be allowed them.
quote:
Peter Squires, professor of criminology at Brighton University and a member of Association of Police Officer’s advisory group on the criminal use of fire arms said that Mr Farage’s comments were "irresponsible".
He said: “If public safety is a consideration then it’s a particularly stupid thing to say. It opens up the problem that we have almost dealt with successfully.
"It will generate a demand, it will generate illegal traffic around that demand – the problem with hand guns is that they are small and concealable and they are already the weapon of choice of gangs members and criminals.”
However, this next quote by Farage is funny to me..
quote:
Mr Farage said: “I would not like us to go to the American System which strikes me as being absolutely crazy that you can go and buy automatic repeating rifles down at a local gun shop that looks more like a supermarket.
And then...
quote:
Keith Vaz, the chair of the home affairs committe, said Britain has the toughest gun laws in the world and strong action had been needed following the "horrific tragedy" at Dunblaine.
He added: "The logical consequence of relaxing gun laws, as suggested by Mr Farage, is an increase in gun use which should be discouraged rather than encouraged. Any change could possibly act as a green light for an increase in criminality.
"Our legislation makes Britain a beacon of safety and it would be completely irresponsible to change the law governing hand guns."
This is a cautionary tale for us Americans and what the left and gun grabbers dream of in this country one day.
Never compromise with them.

quote:This couldn't be more true. The anti-gunners are a very patient group. The continue to chip away at gun rights (under the guise of "sensible regulations") at a slow but steady pace. One need only to look at CA, Il or NY to see what the act of "compromise" will get you.
Never compromise with them.

It's not a matter of compromising, it's a matter of amending the constitution. The British and the Australians had nothing in their constitutions protecting their gun rights.

And don't forget that it takes 38 states to amend the constitution, or put another way, it only takes 13 states to protect the Second Amendment.

That does not equal up to 57 states

According to the Dear Leader, the Constitution doesn't matter because the Dear Leader has a pen. And, everyone knows that an Obama Executive Order trumps the Constitution, just ask Ruth Ginsburg, she'll agree.

The SCOTUS has already ruled that the Second Amendment protects the right to private gun ownership for personal protection, aside from "a well regulated militia".

By a 5-4 ruling.
Some of our freedoms are literally hanging by a freaking thread.

And we have two conservative justices that are hanging on baby a thread. If those two can make it to 2016 still in place, we'll have dodged a political torpedo of Obama filling those vacances with liberals and thus making the SCOTUS liberal for at least a generation.

I don't see the gun issue as a liberal issue as much as it is a regional issue, because southern and rural Democrats (eg. John Tester, Joe Manchin) and more pro-gun than urban and northeastern Republicans (eg. Peter King, Mark Kirk). What worries me about Obama's appointees is that they were both born and raised in New York City. If he had appointed a couple of southern and/or rural liberals, the Second Amendment would be safe for the time being. By the way, why do both Republican and Democrat Presidents feel that members of the SCOTUS must have an Ivy League pedigree anyway?
