Saints should tag & trade Jimmy

Saints should tag Jimmy with the non-exclusive tag and trade him for two first round draft picks (of course assuming the trade partner is not in the NFC South or Other NFC threat). Obviously preferable to have a crappy afc team as a trade Partner.
I love Jimmy as a player and even more as a person, but I'm a saints fan first. I don't think Jimmy is irreplaceable and taking on even a"reasonable" contract for him would be a bad choice if given the opportunity to snag two high first rounders.
Simply put, I'd jump at the chance to trade with Oakland and take Sammy Watkins and be stoked knowing we've got an extra number one waiting next year. Talk about planning for the future. Talk about continuing to make tough smart choices in the TEAM'S best interest, a-la Patriots.
The saints struck gold drafting Jimmy in the third. But we all know Drew is the catalyst for our incredible offensive numbers the last eight years. I think the addition of a true number one talent at WR would make more of an impact than JG, and I also like Payton's chances to find a decent replacement at the position given the explosion of similar players in the football world recently.
Please don't misunderstand me, I think Jimmy is probably the best at his position right now (a healthy Gronk being the main competition). But this is one situation where I think reading a great player and person and fan favorite might simply be the best and most responsible route for the team to take.
Again, I might love Jimmy (yeah) but I LOVE the Saints more!
WHODAT!

I agree with everything in the first post.

I'm back in the thread (lol).
I really don't think my idea is that far fetched or crazy.
I've seen several NFL experts (Rapaport, Breer, etc...) say that they've heard Saints could actually expect to recieve 2 1's. I know this is rare and that teams usually work out a 1 and 4 or something like that, but these guys say there are a couple of teams out there seriously considering and willing to pay the two 1's as compensation, according to their sources.
I don't think this is at all like a silly "madden" trade Prob for Sherman idea. This is actually plausible, and I think there's merit to really considering if this is in the best interest of the team.
Think about the way he has been limited against teams with a physical player and a plan to stop HIM. Think about the instances late in the year and the playoffs where he was on the sideline in big spots simply because he is not versatile enough (blocking ability) to give us a legitimate threat of run and pass on the same play.
Again, great organizations make tough choices in the best interest of the whole.

so we have a guy with 1 post starting a thread and another guy with 63 posts agreeing with everything said in the first post?

I agree with you, but you're going to get ripped by people who say JIMMY IS OUR OFFENSE.
I want to trade him more for the sake of our long-term cap space. There is just no way we can afford Drew AND Jimmy.

We want Jimmy but; we also want a good team. Two no. 1's would go a long way with SP and Loomis at the draft table. I personally don't want this scenario but if his demands are too unreasonable it may be our best option.

I agree for the most part. Graham is a stud and anyone who says different is kidding themselves. Giving him up won't be easy for the organization as a whole, but one tight end doesn't make an offense. He only lacked in toughness after he got hurt about halfway through the season. You have to realize he came out like a man on a mission. He didn't play like (excuse my comparison) Clowney did this season in trying not to get hurt even though his next contract could've been jeopardized with a major injury. If he gets to 100% and isn't asking too much, do not let him go. If he thinks he's worth #1 WR money, franchise and trade his arse for pieces that can come in and make a difference from day 1.
eta: we as fans think we know what is best for the organization but we don't. He may be a class act and an integral part of the team fiber. We just don't see every side to the organization's strategy but we go off what the numbers and our eyes say. In Loomis we trust.

Josh Hill pain train.

I agree with the Salary Cap angle as well, I just forgot to include it.
In addition to all the benefits I think I laid out clearly enough, how great would it be to trade a potentially debilitating top-of-market contract for the next four years for a rookie in the new CBA contract?
This scenario just makes way too much sense for our organization.
I think we have an opportunity to really turn this into a windfall if we're smart. I am actually pulling for this circumstance pretty hard. We've got Benjamin Watson and Josh Hill in the fold. Those guys aren't "special" by any means, but they're not hot garbage either. Imagine if this 1st round could give us Sammy Watkins and a guy like Cyril Richardson from Baylor. Have a true #1 fast physical freak to open up the offense, and a solid prospect to replace Jahri or Grubbs in a couple of years when their contracts explode, PLUS the potential that he could start out at Center, giving us a huge upgrade over DLP, who also is about to see his cap number go up if we keep him.
Man I hope this tag-and-trade happens.

The only way the Saints should trade away Jimmy is if we get a Herschel Walker type deal. The problem with our offense right now is that we don't have enough receiving threats. Your solution is to get rid of our best receiving threat. Nah man. I'm good.

Trade Jimmy and Draft Watkins and Jace Amaro a tightend that can be a wideout, but can block as well so most of his snaps will be at tightend?

You never get a guy like jimmy graham and if you do and trade him you will never get back his worth even with 2 first round picks. Take some money from Brees and give it to him.

I certainly understand the rationale, but the Saints would be trading a known comodity who is the best player at his position in the prime of his career for 2 players whose ability to succeed in the NFL would be unknown. Every year we see "Can't miss" 1st round picks flop. Is the risk worth the reward? To me, absolutely not.
The Saints' window for another championship is NOW, and that window is closing quickly as Brees gets older. Graham is a big part of the success of this team. Don't sacrafice max success now to avoid the possibility of failure in the future. If Graham was coming off of his 8th NFL season, fine. If Brees was 28, sure. But IMO this team HAS to be in "win now" mode.

You would be trading a future HOFer coming into his prime for two unknowns. These two unknowns could easily end up being the next Charles Rogers and Coby Fleener. If the right contract can be worked out and I'm confident that Loomis can figure it out then we are better off keeping what we have and using our first or second round pick to bring in a deep threat wide receiver in a draft that is already being touted as being particularly deep at the position.

How I see things. Your two first round picks could relatively work out, and you still might never get your value back. Look at the players that the Saints have picked during the first round throughout their history. How many are about the same calliber of player? Not many.

No man, draft picks are guaranteed to work out. Madden is just like real life.
2 first round picks is tempting, but still, you have no idea what you're going to get. With Graham we already know. There are options in FA that can be had for cheap, like Maclin, to add to this offense. This draft is also extremely deep at WR. Take care of Graham, and worry about adding pieces in other ways. We have a numbers genius that can do this.
