How do you feel about spanking children?

I'm against it.
I was spanked as a child by my father, often in lieu of sufficient explanation/dialogue. The spanking instilled fear in me, often in lieu of true understanding of the lesson my father desired to convey.
As a result, if I felt that I could get away with the undesired action, I would often do it, as fear of punishment was the main deterrent.
I was just listening to Joe Rogan discuss this with Stefan Molyneux - JRE #436. From about 1:13:00 - 1:18:00, they discuss spanking. Also, at around 2:18:00, Molyneux talks about some larger effects on society/politics.

I think the word is misused. "spanking" a helpless child is essentially "beating" to a degree. Slapping is what you're talking about, which I am ok with.
Inflicting fear or pain on a child is unacceptable and beating imo.

Every time this topic ever comes up IRL, the losers/degenerates are always quick to say their parents spanked them and they turned out ok.

This one time when I was 6, me and my mother were at a convenience store. I asked her if she could buy me some Lifesavers, she said no, so I said frick it and put it in my pocket while she wasn't looking. When we got home, she saw me take them out and asked me if they were paid for. I said no, and she proceeded to whip my arse. The worst part about all of this was having to go back to the store, face all red from getting slapped and crying, and have to give the Lifesavers back. I'm 26 years old, and still to this day, I haven't stolen anything. Hell, anytime I even see a pack of Lifesavers I cringe :csb:
Anywho, personally, if the right message is being conveyed, then yes, I'm all for it.

I do it as a last resort. When verbal explanations don't do the trick, a physical one will get the point across immediately.

I spanked my first child a couple times, but it didn't produce the desired results. I'm not against spanking, but it hasn't been necessary for us.

I tend to blame this on poor parenting in general, not a lack of spankings.
