Now that he's locked in as closer, do you ever see him being a starter again? I think he has electric stuff, and the mindset to be a starter, but now it seems that once you are pushed into that role, you don't get out of it, especially if you are good at it. I know Wainwright did it too, but hell that was what, 7 years ago or so?

I guess since the rotation is so loaded, it makes sense for him to be the closer, and with Martinez on the cusp of making an impact, its not like the openings are right around the corner. frick, what a great problem to have. Too many good arms.

Dammit.

Rosey is the next great closer in baseball, he's staying there likely for his career.

Especially with Motte post TJ and who knows how he responds.

I hope he ends up in a drunken car wreck or smokes some bad weed.

Same thing happened with Chapman. Flirt with starting him for a brief moment, let him setup for a little while, and then BAM. Dominant closer.

Was Chapman a starter in the minors like Rosey too?

Not a Cards fan, but I think it would be a bad move not to give a talent like Rosenthal a chance to start. No doubt he'll be a dominant reliever, but there's so much more value in a starter.

Too loaded for that to happen anytime soon.

Not for the Cardinals right now, exact opposite.

I know I'm in the minority in this opinion but I think Motte will be our closer on opening day this year and rosey will be the 8th inning guy, how long will that last? Who knows but I just don't see them giving Motte's spot away unless he is bad during spring.

FTR, I don't think Rosey will ever be a starter again. He is much different than Waino in that Rosey is a flamethrower with closer stuff, Waino has great stuff no doubt but he clearly fit the starting role better than the closer role

Motte isn't going to be on the roster for opening day.

Cardinals/Matheny have also already said Rosey is the 2014 closer.

Where the hell have you been?

Yes. He was paid a lot of money to be a starter for years to come.

Slight hijack.

So, what's Bryan Price gonna do with Chapman this year? I hope he leaves him in the pen, but I doubt it.

If all of that is the case then I guess I've been living under a rock

This not having a twitter thing probably isn't helping but I refuse to get one

Yeah man, Motte isn't recovering great and won't see STL until late May or June most likely.

As for a timetable for his return to game play, Motte won't yet speculate that far in advance. What is known, though, is that he'll participate in a modified Spring Training program and won't be ready to break camp with the club.

Yeah, I'm an idiot
That's a pretty informative link about where things stand with the team if anyone else has been living under a rock for 6 months

Yeah that's what a quoted from actually.

CMart is going to be setting up Rosey, but he'll start if anyone struggles between Lynn/Garcia/Kelly. He's still a year away from outright winning a starting spot. Could change quickly though with his talent level.

Yeah, I thought so. I probably saw Rosey start 4 times here at Double A Springfield, never once did I think he'd be a bullpen/closer guy with his repertoire.

they may have wainwright, martinez, wacha, rosenthal, miller, and lynn, but joke's on them they have to pick five out of that group!!

of course they'll probably put kelly in the rotation too or some shite.
