My dad and I have been looking for some hunting land. We want some jam up deer hunting land, preferably in Mississippi, but open to anywhere where the deer population is good. We are looking to buy not lease. I've hunted south Louisiana my whole life and am now looking for a place where I can kill some legit wall hangers. Don't get me wrong I know that there are big deer in Louisiana, but where I hunt there is so much pressure. I make a few trips to Mississippi on my brother in law's land each year and we check the cameras, and in every spot he has pictures of at least 4 or 5 rack bucks. I see deer almost every hunt up there. That's what we want.

Recommend that you locate an area you prefer (County) and then search for land in subject County via local realtors or bank or government auction.

Plan on making some trips there to visit the land and confirm for yourself the harvest potential of the land.

Also familiarize yourself with the timber business. Land with old timber on it will be priced higher than land with young timber or timber that has been recently cut.

I'd recommend finding some ag land surrounded by big woods. You could then lease the ag section to a farmer and also get involved with the CRP program. Both of these options will provide for the deer as well as help supplement the payments and taxes on the land.

I'd have to cash in my retirement just to pay for the dam fencing.

Me and a couple buddies are also looking at getting a lease somewhere around christian county kentucky. A guy we know who hunts up there told us that he would take big fields of crp and soybeans with a little woods on it in places over a place that is mostly woods. Do y'all agree? I've always said I was going to get in a good place, but I always wait to late so I'm trying to get on the ball early this year. I just really don't know where to start.

Look in Texas, just as many deer and a lot closer than Kentucky.

hunted there twice, and i do not agree. Both times every deer that was killed when we went was in the woods, rarely saw anything but does in the beans and cut corn. All bucks were killed and seen in the woods. Kentuckys woods are much different than woods down south, it is very open and you can see along ways.. not all the dam hedge bushes like south. But You are looking in the right place, Christian County is kentuckys number 1 B&C county

I know there's great hunting across the country, but the black belt of Alabama is some of the best. Take a look in some of those counties.

ETA:

I guess the same goes for MS black belt region, too.
