It's expected to be disappointed that we lost some good recruits

but man this happens to Georgia every year. Worse than this year and it happens there on average.

I'm completely floored at how much their state gets ravaged year in and year out!!!

3 Players in top 15 of this year's class

2013 they had 1 commit out of the top 10 in Georgia

2012 3 out of the top 10.

How the hell does that happen? They have no one to compete with in state

If we take Lorenzo Carter they might go on suicide watch.

The dynamics of Georgia are way different than Louisiana. They have GT in state but that isn't the problem. They got Clemson, Auburn, Tennessee and Florida nearby and are basically under attack from all sides.

Then Atlanta is a metro area, big national schools can come in and do work. Recently, Alabama has been killing it in Atlanta.

UGA is in a much tougher spot than LSU in terms of recruiting geography.

If I recall, Fla was his leader last summer. So it appears that leaving the state isn't an obstacle. Im a positiger, but I hope that bodes well for us.

Georgia has nearly twice the population of Louisiana so if all things were equal they would lose twice as many players.

But all things aren't equal.
LSU is the only BCS school in Louisiana. Georgia at least has Georgia Tech very close to Athens in ATL.

Not to mention Athens is within 5 hours or less of 5 SEC schools (Auburn, bama, vandy, USC, and Tennessee.)
Clemson is only an hour and a half away.
UNC, NC State, Duke, FSU, and UF aren't ridiculous drives.

LSU is not within 5 hours of ANY SEC schools(and I can't even think of any BCS schools?).

The "dream" of most Louisiana standout athletes is usually to get offered by LSU. I doubt it's the same in the state of Georgia.

We got it good folks.

They have a nice interactive map of where college players come from on the sec rant. in the surrounding counties these schools have about the same number tamu and UGA prob with the most, then LSU, Bama, UF and Mizzou. The rest dont even come close. So yeah You cant get them all considering you have and 85 scholarship limit and all these places have over 100 players playing in college.

Would that be like LF going to Tulane though? I know Tech is still in a bcs conference, and won a title as recently as 1990, But UGA shouldnt be losing out on the top talent to GA Tech. He might be an anomaly though considering he is pretty bright.

IIRC, UF was his leader, with UGA a distant second. Look out for some surprise buttsects from LSU though.

UGA's most recent is 1980.

And no.. it's nothing like losing LF to Tulane.
IMO.. it'd kinda be like losing a top recruit to Arkansas or someone of that caliber. Sure they probably won't win any NC's, but he's probably going to the NFL regardless.

You will be able to speak of this from personal experience in a few more years. The world is changing; and it's finally changing in Louisiana as well. I consider our best players leaving the state to be a bad thing, but it's part of a good trend that was seeping into Louisiana before, but was accelerated by Katrina. It's part of Louisiana becoming less insular. The good manifestations are: less political corruption, better educated citizens; a booming economy. This economic growth is bringing people from all over the country to Louisiana. Their kids will not be as fixated on Louisiana as home, though.

Nice theory but complete bullshite. The 90s' LSU coudldn't land a top ten class for shite, it' comes in cycles and LSU has been on a good run. And LSU has as many schools close enough to pilfer recruits if they start to lose and not contend for championships.

Interesting when I checked last week, doesn't Bama only have 5 recruits total from the state of Alabama??

This should tell you something! Both of these teams beat us this year and all we can talk about are the ones that got away.

1) Richt does not recruit at the level of a Saban or Meyer
2) Georgia is a state with a lot of transplants and less state pride than many smaller states
3) Geography is against them, they are beset on all sides by power programs.

By comparison Louisiana borders Arkansas, Mississippi, and Texas. The Texas schools are good but elite atm. The Mississippi and Arkansas schools haven't been nationally relevant since the 60s. Georgia is bordered by major programs in Alabama (Bama/Auburn) and Florida (FSU/Florida) and middle tier programs in Tennessee (Tenn), South Carolina (Clemson, USC), and NC (NC, etc). They simply have more people in closer range to come in more easily and develop recruiting relationships with in state schools.

I have kids college age and a little older. Their entire generation is leaving Louisiana for college way more than previous generations. There's a wanderlust among Louisiana's youth that simply has never been there before. You pointed out that LSU couldn't keep the local talent in the 90's; well, sure, LSU sucked. But all things being equal, a lot more kids are going to leave now. On the other hand, we'll benefit from this trend by getting oos kids.
