Where is a good area for a 22 year old to live? I know about the Heights, but havent heard of many other places. I'll be working in a new office but the location hasn't been decided yet, either way traffic is going to suck which is a given.

Can you wait on this first? Could really screw you, depending on where you decide to end up and where work ends up.

It's not always true. Especially if you live in Midtown/Montrose area and work outside of the loop.
You are against traffic both ways.
It takes about 10-12 minutes to commute from Midtown to Reliant.

This. Just moved to Houston and its the shortest commute ive ever had and the shop is outside the beltway. My commute in BR and Houma was twice as long.

It really depends on where you end up working, how long term you are looking, how much you want to spend and how much going out you plan on doing.

I'd suggest looking in the area between Shepherd and Montrose and West Gray and 59. There are some somewhat sketchy areas in there and it really varies block to block, but its a central location and I know of a lot of people that have found good rent houses in the area. I rented a place just off of Shepherd near Westheimer and liked it.

Anywhere close to downtown. Unless your office is in Katy or the Woodlands, your commute will be against the traffic unless there is an accident

Lived there for 6 years and in Humble for a year before that and can say without a doubt that rice military/heights/Washington corridor is better. Hope your job pays well or you plan on getting roommates cause it can get 'spensive

I just bought a house in the Heights. I'm 26 and engaged. For a 22 year old, I would suggest trying to find something in Midtown/Montrose/Rice Military area. I lived in the middle of the Washington Bar scene and Midtown Bar scene off Allen Parkway from the time I moved here until this past fall. I loved it. You are a quick 5 minute cab ride from any nightlife. I love the Heights now, but I'm at a different point in my life. I don't go out nearly as much. I'm thinking the Heights may be cheaper the further north you go, but I'm not sure if you are on a budget or whatever.

Your experience is probably with friends/relatives in the burbs.

The office will be in the downtown area. Not Katy or anything like that.

I wouldn't want to live there. I love the Dynamo, so it would be cool during the season, but the area around it just isn't built up enough. You would need to drive a decent distance to go eat anywhere. They have a couple places right next to the stadium, but the farther away, the shadier it gets. I would say buying a place there then selling it 10 years from now would be a good idea, but renting just doesn't seem worth it if you want to enjoy yourself.
