Chargers 2002-2006
2002- Stephen alexander- 45 rec, 510 yds, 1td
2003- Antonio gates- 24, 389, 2
2004- AG- 81, 964, 13
2005- AG- 89, 1101, 10
2006- AG- 71, 924, 9

In Baltimore, he had decent seasons with the great Todd Heap and turned Dennis Pitta into a legit threat.

Granted, Dillon Gordon and Desean Smith aren't Antonio Gates, but I think we can all agree Smith has the skill set to be great. Wouldn't you like to see numbers like those from a tight end? on LSU? Now that's crazy talk.

I could care less if a TE ever catches another ball again.... If we have anything close to an offense like we did last year, I don't care

And those stats are from the pros... Not many college teams throw to TE's like everyone on this board thinks.....

I agree with you, but for a young, mostly inexperienced QB, TEs can be a great safety net.

Why? I don't understand why people are so worried about TE usage in the pass game. They are used to block, and our system worked last year. It will be worked in, but if you have an athlete like Antonio Gates, its up to you to work him into the offense. If we have a player worthy of the touches, we will get it to him, just relax.

Exactly, the Gates and Grahams of the world aren't on many college teams....

LSU's offense was incredible last year.. don't get me wrong, but at the end of the day, this is cam cameron's offense. He has ran it for the last decade and it's not gonna change just because he came to college. He'll start to use tight ends more just like his past indicates. How much better could our offense be with an added dimension over the middle of the field?

Cam Cameron is going to get the ball in the hands of his best playmakers. When discussing this past season why would you have wanted the OC to focus on getting the ball to the TE when he had maybe the best tandem of WRs in the country?

And Cam Cameron has always tailored his offense to best suit his personnel. There isn't really a "Cam Cameron offense" to the extent that people think. Antonio Gates isn't walking through that door. If we have a viable TE receiving threat we'll use it. If not, we'll continue to not throw to TEs that often. We shouldn't throw to TEs "just because".

Why do we care? If LSU wins who cares which player gets the ball.

It's called football, you use deception. Why don't the Lions throw it to MEGAtron every play? He is obviously the most talented player on the team by far! You don't bc defenses know it's coming.. You find your secondary threats and honestly we didn't really have any this past year. And I'm not saying Cam did it wrong this past year by not throwing to the tight ends. Tight ends tend to struggle in cam's system the first year. In years two and three they start to pick it up, thats all I'm saying. Expect a larger role from the tight end this year

You could have gotten the entire point of this thread through to us with:

Dickson was open all the time on that seam route. He was open when Jennings threw that bad pass to him that was intercepted. I hope we utilize the TE more. Dickson looks to be a quality receiver.

I do not. That would be really distracting.

The one instance that you use that he was open, is one in which he was the passing target.

Exactly. Mett was in his fifth year, all he did was clean up Mett's footwork and installed some wrinkles that catered to Mett's rocket launcher arm.

He'll install the full package next year which tells me that Harris will not be playing at al because of having to not only improve himself fundamentally, but learn the whole offense. More TE option, more RB option, more 3 and 4 WR sets. More Gun, more read and speed option, etc.

If we dont throw to Desean Smith and Jacory Washington during their careers, ill be a little upset

I wasnt expecting much last season because we didnt have any experienced pass catching TEs, Smith just wasnt ready. But over the next two-three years with Smith getting adjusted and Washington doing the same and being a freak athlete it would be a damn shame if they didnt get targeted
