I'm going to jam a real spear into their throat. I must be the new 2014 Buzz word. I've heard it 65 times this week alone. FML

Unless you are a Navy Seal, Green Beret, etc. you should never say that you are the tip of the spear in any context.

Try to work in the phrase "just the tip" and act insulted if anyone snickers or questions it.

what kind of context are they using tip of the spear in?

tip of the spear seems like an odd phrase, i mean if i am using tip of the spear to someone, it surely isnt going to be in the work place. unless the new hot secretary wants to see the tip of the spear

In a business meeting I take it? This is more of that Business Warrior bullshite where consultants try to apply military principles to business models. I can dig adopting some of the concepts and attitudes but talking like you are ex-SOF just because you went to a three day seminar pisses me off.

I feel your pain so "suck it up and drive on", "keep your head down", "lean forward", etc. I have tons more but it is making me mad just thinking of ones I have heard used.
